So, I’ve been messing around with this game, Deadlock, for a while now. You know, it’s that new shooter from Valve that everyone’s been talking about. I got in through an invite from a buddy – it’s still in that early access, invite-only phase.
When I first started playing, I remember seeing some crazy player numbers. I mean, this game wasn’t even officially out yet, and it was blowing up. I hopped on one of those player tracking sites, Tracklock I think it was, and it was showing that the game hit a peak of like, 171,000 players at one point! That was back in early September, soon after its official reveal, or something. Crazy, right?
Now, things have cooled down a bit. The hype’s kinda settled, and the numbers have dropped. The other day, I checked again, and it said there were only about 100,000 active players. Still a decent number, but definitely not as wild as before. There are some other sites like Steam DB and Steam Charts, they are all tracking the numbers. I checked them sometimes but I am not sure how accurate those numbers are.
But that’s not all. Today, I logged in to check out the current situation, and it was a ghost town. I mean, I looked at one of those tracking sites and it showed only about 15,000 players online. And the peak for the last 24 hours was just around 24,000. I even tried to find a match, but no luck, I guess that’s because too few players online. They showed the matchmaking status was “UNKNOWN”. What happened? Maybe they are having some serious issues?
It’s kinda interesting to watch these numbers fluctuate. You can really see how the initial excitement can drive up the player count, and then how it kinda levels out over time. Plus, with these tracking sites, you can get a pretty good idea of what’s going on with the game’s popularity.
- Checked out this game, Deadlock, still in early access.
- Saw some huge player numbers at first, like 171,000 at one point in September!
- Numbers have dropped since then, now around 100,000 active players.
- Today, even fewer players online, only about 15,000, matchmaking status was “UNKNOWN”.
- It’s cool to see how these numbers change over time.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with Deadlock’s player count. It’s been a fun ride so far, and I’m curious to see where it goes from here. Will it bounce back? Will it keep dropping? Who knows! But I’ll be here, watching those numbers and enjoying the game.
