Okay, so, let’s dive into my latest meditation experiment. This is part three, so I’ve already tried a few things out. This time around, I wanted to find some specific spots that would really work for me. You know, places where I could really get into the zone.
First, I started looking around my apartment. I figured, I should start with someplace familiar, right? I tried sitting on my couch, but it was way too comfy. I nearly fell asleep! Then I thought, maybe my bedroom? Nope, same problem. Too many comfy distractions. I sat on the floor near the window. It got a little bit better, but not really good enough.
Then, I decided to think outside the box a bit. I remembered reading something about different types of meditation, like “Focused Attention” and “Open Monitoring.” I’d been mostly doing the focused attention thing, trying to keep my mind on my breath or something like that. But the “Open Monitoring” sounded interesting. Just kind of letting your thoughts come and go, without getting hung up on them.
So, armed with this new idea, I went on a little adventure in my neighborhood. I walked to a nearby park and found a quiet bench under a big tree. I sat down, closed my eyes, and started to just listen. Birds chirping, kids playing in the distance, the wind rustling the leaves – it was actually pretty cool.
At first, my mind was all over the place. But I kept bringing it back to the sounds around me, just like I read somewhere. It was kind of like a game, in a way. And you know what? It actually worked. I felt way more relaxed and present than when I was just trying to force my mind to be quiet.
- I sat down.
- I closed my eyes.
- I started to listen.
- I felt way more relaxed.
I’ve been trying this “open monitoring” thing in a few different spots now. The park is definitely a favorite. I also tried it on my balcony, which is nice when the weather’s good. Even just sitting in a quiet corner of a coffee shop seems to work, as long as I can tune out the chatter.
The main thing I’ve learned is that finding the right meditation spot is kind of a personal thing. It’s not just about finding a quiet place, but also about finding a place where you feel comfortable and can let go of distractions. And sometimes, trying a different type of meditation can make a big difference, too. I still can’t believe how such a small change in the way I think during meditation made me feel so much better. I will keep doing this. I will try more places, and I will update you about that.
