Okay, so, today I tackled this crossword clue, “Walk for a Cause,” in the New York Times puzzle. It had me scratching my head for a bit, I won’t lie.
First, I tried to think of different words related to walking. You know, like “stroll,” “hike,” “amble.” None of those fit, unfortunately. They weren’t the right length, and they didn’t quite capture the “for a cause” part of the clue. Then I thought about, like, what the purpose of walking for a cause is, and tried to come up with some answers. I got “MARCHED”, “PROTESTED” and so on, but they didn’t work.
Then, I started thinking about different kinds of events where people walk for a cause. You’ve got your charity walks, your protest marches, and so on. I tried fitting in words like “MARCH” or “PROTEST,” but still no luck. The letter count was not right.
I even tried to get a little creative and thought about synonyms for “cause.” Maybe something like “movement” or “campaign” would spark something. Nope, still stuck. I read some tips online, saying that daily practice would be helpful. Sounds reasonable, gotta build up the vocabulary and pattern recognition, I guess.
I spent a solid, I don’t know, maybe nine or ten minutes on this one clue? And then it hit me – “PICKETED.” That’s it! People picket as a form of protest, walking back and forth with signs, usually outside a building or during a strike. It fit perfectly with the number of letters and the “for a cause” meaning.
It was such a relief to finally crack it! There are other answers to this clue, and I checked them out. There are about 40 possible answers, quite a lot, huh? I also found out that this clue was featured on June 20, 2024. Someone got the answer on June 21, which was really fast. Anyway, felt really good to solve it on my own. Crossword puzzles can be such a brain teaser, but it’s so satisfying when you finally get that “aha!” moment.
Anyway, just wanted to share my little victory. Maybe it’ll help someone else out there who’s stuck on the same clue. Happy puzzling, folks!
