Alright, let’s talk about this “golf shamble format” thing I tried out last weekend. I’m not a pro or anything, but I do like to get out on the course when I can. So, a few buddies and I decided to give this shamble thing a go, and man, it was interesting.
First off, we had to figure out who was playing with who. We ended up with two teams of four, which seemed like a good number. We all gathered at the first tee, did some warm-up swings, you know, the usual stuff. Then we got down to business.
Each of us teed off, like you normally do in golf. The fun part was, after everyone hit their drive, we had to pick the best one. It wasn’t always the longest drive either. Sometimes a ball that landed in a good spot, even if it wasn’t super far, was the better choice. So, we did that, picked the best drive, and marked the spot.
Then we each got to play our own ball from that spot. It was kind of cool because you got the advantage of the best drive, but you still had to play your own game from there. And let me tell you, just because you start from a good spot doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed a good score. I definitely had a few holes where I messed up even after a great drive.
We kept track of everyone’s scores, but for the team score, we only used the lowest score on each hole. We did this for all 18 holes. It was a long day, and the sun was beating down on us. But it was a blast. We were all pretty tired by the end, but it was that good kind of tired, you know?
And, since we weren’t 100% sure how to handle handicaps, we decided on a rule of thumb: 80% of each player’s handicap.
- Everyone tees off.
- Pick the best drive.
- Everyone plays their own ball from there.
- Lowest individual score counts for the team on each hole.
After playing, we went to the clubhouse, had some drinks, and talked about the game. It was a great way to spend the day, and I think we’ll definitely do it again. I am just so happy I could share this with you guys!
