So, I’ve been a huge fan of Kenny Omega for years, ever since I saw him back in his Premier Championship Wrestling days. The guy’s just got this incredible energy and a totally unique style, you know? He’s not just a wrestler; he’s a storyteller in the ring. I always thought his whole vibe was super cool, and at some point, I started thinking, “Why not try to cosplay as him?”
I mean, I’ve never really done cosplay before, but I figured it could be a fun project. Plus, there are so many easy cosplay ideas out there for beginners, so I thought, why not give it a go? I decided to go with his Terminator look from Wrestle Kingdom 11. It’s a pretty iconic look, and I’ve always had this crazy idea in my head about doing a Kenny Omega who’s plotting to take down Adam Cole.
The first thing I did was to gather some reference images. I spent hours looking at pictures and videos of Kenny in that outfit, trying to get all the details right. His costume is kind of complex, but I figured I could break it down into smaller, more manageable parts. I’m not really into sewing and stuff, so I knew I’d have to get creative with finding ready-made pieces that I could modify.
I started with the jacket. I found this old leather jacket at a thrift store that had a similar shape to Kenny’s. It wasn’t the right color, but I figured I could work with that. I bought some red and black fabric paint and got to work. I’m not gonna lie, it was a bit messy, and it took a few tries to get the colors right, but eventually, I managed to make it look pretty close to the real thing.
Finding the Right Pants
- Scouring thrift stores: I hit up every thrift store in town, looking for black pants.
- Online marketplaces: Checked out a bunch of online stores, but nothing really matched what I was looking for.
- Department stores: Finally found a pair of black cargo pants at a department store that were a decent fit.
The pants were a bit trickier. I couldn’t find anything that looked exactly like Kenny’s, so I had to settle for a pair of black cargo pants that were close enough. I added some red accents with fabric paint and some patches to make them look more like the ones he wore. It wasn’t perfect, but it worked.
Next up was the hair. Kenny’s got this wild, blonde hair that’s a big part of his look. I’m not blonde, so I had to get a wig. I found one online that was pretty close to his style, but it needed some work. I spent a whole afternoon trimming and styling it, trying to get that messy, voluminous look he has. It was tough, but I think I managed to pull it off.
The accessories were the most fun part. I found some cheap sunglasses and painted them to match Kenny’s. I also made a replica of his signature gun taunt hand gesture out of cardboard and painted it silver. It sounds silly, but it was actually a lot of fun to put together.
Putting it all together was a bit nerve-wracking. I kept doubting myself, thinking maybe I was in over my head. But once I had everything on, it actually looked pretty good! I even did a little photoshoot in my backyard, trying to mimic some of Kenny’s poses. It was a blast!
I haven’t worn the costume to any events yet, but I’m planning to. It’s not perfect, but I’m proud of what I accomplished. It was a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun. And who knows, maybe this is just the beginning of my cosplay journey. I might even try some other characters in the future. We’ll see!
So yeah, that’s my Kenny Omega cosplay story. It’s been a wild ride, but I’m glad I did it. It’s not every day you get to transform yourself into one of your heroes, even if it’s just for a little while.
