Okay, so I tried out this “shamble format golf” thing today. It sounded kind of interesting, a little different from the usual rounds I play. Basically, it’s like a mix of a scramble and regular stroke play. Let me tell you how it went down.
First off, we gathered at the first tee, all four of us. We all hit our tee shots just like normal. Nothing fancy, just trying to get it in the fairway.
Tee Off and Choosing the Best Ball
- Hit our drives.
- Looked at where they landed.
- Chose the best-looking one.
Then, we walked over to where the best drive landed. This is where it gets a bit different. Instead of everyone hitting from the same spot like in a scramble, we each played our own ball from there.
Playing Your Own Ball
- Found the best drive’s spot.
- Played our own balls from there, like in regular golf.
- Kept playing our own balls until we holed out.
So, we picked up our other balls and headed to the chosen spot. Dropped our balls around there, and then it was game on. Each of us played our second shots, then our third, and so on. We kept track of our own scores just like normal stroke play. Walked to our own balls each time. Swung our clubs. Moved on to the next hole. Repeat that process.
Counting Scores
- Wrote down each player’s score for each hole.
- Added them up at the end of the round.
- Lowest score wins, just like usual.
We finished the whole round like that, all 18 holes. It was kind of cool because you get the advantage of that one great tee shot, but then you’re on your own. It actually made it more competitive, I think. Everyone was really focusing on their own game after that first shot. The scores were all over the place, which was kind of funny. At the end, we added up the scores, and there was a clear winner. Not me, unfortunately, but it was still a good time.
It was a decent day out on the course. This shamble format, it’s not bad. Might do it again sometime. Felt good to be out there, swinging the clubs, and enjoying the day.
