Okay, so I saw this thing online about Bobby Suggs in Gary, Indiana, and it got me thinking. I’ve always been interested in urban exploration and abandoned places, so I decided to check it out myself. I grabbed my camera, packed some snacks, and hit the road.
The Drive
The drive to Gary wasn’t too bad. It’s a few hours from where I live. As I got closer, I started seeing more and more run-down buildings and empty lots. It was kinda sad, but also fascinating in a weird way.
Arrival in Gary
When I got to Gary, the first thing I did was drive around the area where this Bobby Suggs guy used to live. The neighborhood was pretty rough, to be honest. Lots of boarded-up houses and trash everywhere. I found the street mentioned online and parked my car a few blocks away, didn’t want to attract too much attention.
Exploring the Area
I started walking around, taking pictures of the abandoned houses and overgrown yards. I tried to imagine what it must have been like back in the day when people actually lived here. It felt like stepping back in time, but not in a good way. There were some really run-down buildings, and the whole place had this eerie vibe to it.
Finding the House
After a while, I found the house that was supposed to be Bobby Suggs’ old place. It was a small, two-story house, completely falling apart. The windows were all broken, and the porch was collapsing. I carefully made my way inside, trying not to step on anything that might give way. I went in there and took a few pictures.
Inside the House
Inside, it was even worse. There was debris everywhere, and the walls were covered in graffiti. I found an old newspaper on the floor, dated back to the 1980s. It was wild to think that someone used to live here and read this same paper. It didn’t look like anyone had been in here since then, well, besides other explorers like me. It was pretty cool, and pretty creepy.
The Basement
I decided to check out the basement, which was probably a bad idea. It was pitch black down there, and I had to use my phone’s flashlight to see anything. I found some old furniture and boxes, but nothing too interesting. Honestly, I just wanted to get out of there. It was real dark and I kept hearing noises.
Leaving the House
After exploring the house for a bit, I decided to head out. It was getting late, and I didn’t want to be stuck in this neighborhood after dark. I took a few more pictures outside and then started walking back to my car. I definitely did not feel safe walking around.
Reflections
Overall, it was a pretty interesting experience. Seeing the state of Gary and this Bobby Suggs house really makes you think about how things can change over time. It’s sad to see a once-thriving city fall into such disrepair. But, it’s also a reminder of the importance of preserving history and remembering the people who came before us. I felt like maybe I shouldn’t be there, but it was interesting to see.
Conclusion
I’m glad I went on this little adventure, but I don’t think I’ll be going back to Gary anytime soon. It’s a place that’s full of history, but it’s also a place that’s been largely forgotten. If you’re into urban exploration, it’s definitely worth checking out, but be careful and make sure you go with someone. It’s not the safest place, but it’s definitely an experience. Do not go alone, and maybe do not go at all.
