So, I woke up this morning with this random idea stuck in my head. I’ve been playing this new mobile game, and my clan’s name is, well, kinda lame. “The Mighty Ducks”? Seriously? We needed an upgrade, and I volunteered to come up with some better options.
First, I just grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. Yeah, I’m old school like that. I started by just free-writing whatever came to mind. No filter, just pure, unadulterated brainstorming. This resulted in a bunch of pretty awful names, honestly. Stuff like “Doom Brigade” and “Flaming Fury”. Too generic, too try-hard.
The “Sound Cool” Test
Next, I decided to try a different approach. I started thinking about what actually sounds cool. You know, names that roll off the tongue, have a bit of mystery, maybe a hint of danger. I started playing with words, combining different sounds and syllables.
- I mumbled the names aloud. Yep, I was that guy, sitting in my kitchen, muttering to myself. My cat probably thought I was losing it.
- I looked words from other language.
- I tried to visualize what each name represented. Did it evoke a powerful image? A fearsome creature? A legendary warrior?
This process was way more productive. I started to get some names that actually had potential. Stuff like:

See? Way better, right? They have a certain… je ne sais quoi. They sound like clans you wouldn’t want to mess with.
Getting Feedback (aka Avoiding Another “Mighty Ducks” Situation)
But I didn’t want to make the same mistake twice. So, before declaring victory, I ran the names by my clanmates. I posted the list in our group chat and asked for their honest opinions.
The feedback was super helpful. Some names they loved, others they hated. “Obsidian Guard” was a bit too long, apparently. “Stormcallers” was a hit, though! We also had a good laugh about some of the names I came up with at 3 am.
It toke me about a hour to do this, and my clanmates like the name what I just came up with.
In the end, we narrowed it down to a top three, and then had a vote. It was a close call, but “Crimson Reapers” won! I gotta say, I’m pretty proud of that one. It sounds way more intimidating than “The Mighty Ducks”. Mission accomplished!
