Well, let me tell ya, Sepp Straka is this fella from Austria, and he’s been doin’ mighty fine out there on the golf course. He started off real strong in the first round of the TOUR Championship with a score of 4-under 66, and I reckon that’s no small feat for any professional golfer, let alone a fella from overseas. But what many folks don’t know is that a big part of Sepp’s success comes from the fella who’s been walkin’ alongside him, helpin’ him out with all them clubs and such—his caddy, Duane Bock.
Now, Duane Bock ain’t no stranger to the game. He’s been workin’ the caddy gig for quite a while, and he’s been a good fit with Sepp. You see, Duane was workin’ for another fella, Kevin Kisner, but Kisner decided he needed a break from the game, so that’s when Bock started workin’ with Sepp Straka. This happened back in the summer of 2023, when the two of ‘em hooked up for the first time.
They didn’t waste no time at all. Their first tournament together was the 2023 John Deere Classic, and let me tell ya, they didn’t miss a beat. It was like they’d been workin’ together for years, though it was only their first go. But that’s how it is with some folks. When they click, they just click.
Now, folks might think that just because a caddy’s carryin’ clubs and handin’ ‘em off to the golfer, that’s all there is to it. But I tell ya, there’s a lot more to it than that. Duane Bock, he’s not just carryin’ Sepp’s clubs—he’s out there readin’ the greens, settin’ up shots, and even keepin’ Sepp calm when the pressure’s on. A good caddy knows how to work the course just as much as the golfer does. And that’s exactly what Duane’s been doin’ for Sepp.
Now, I ain’t one to keep track of all them fancy golf terms, but what I do know is that these two fellas—Sepp and Duane—are workin’ real well together. In fact, after missin’ the cut by just one stroke at the 3M Open in Minneapolis, Duane was back out there loopin’ for Sepp at the next event. They say the secret to success is teamwork, and it sure looks like these two have found their rhythm.
It don’t stop there though. Duane’s been with Sepp through thick and thin, even when he was workin’ for other players. In fact, Duane’s been all over the world, and I hear he’s known for havin’ calves as big as tree trunks. Must be all that walkin’ around, carryin’ them clubs and all. I reckon you don’t get legs like that sittin’ on your behind all day!
Well, come this fall, Duane Bock’s gonna be workin’ with Sepp Straka on Team Europe at the Ryder Cup, which is gonna be held at Marco Simone in Italy. They say this will be Duane’s first time workin’ on a big ol’ team like that, but I reckon if he can handle all the pressure and travelin’ he’s been doin’, he’s more than ready. And you know what they say—when it comes to golf, sometimes a little luck can go a long way. Maybe Duane Bock’s been Sepp’s lucky charm all along, and we’ll see them go far in Italy.
So, next time you watch Sepp Straka out there on the course, just remember it ain’t just his skill that’s makin’ him shine—it’s also the fella by his side, Duane Bock, who’s been helpin’ him out all the way. A good caddy can make all the difference in the world, and it looks like Duane Bock’s been just what Sepp needed to take his game to the next level.
