Okay, so I wanted to really get into the nitty-gritty of Lukaku in FC24. I’d heard some mixed things, some people saying he’s a beast, others saying he’s clunky. I had to find out for myself.

First, I booted up the game and headed straight into Ultimate Team. I already had Lukaku in my club, fortunately, so I didn’t need to splash the coins. If you don’t have him, check the transfer market, he might be a bargain!
Building the Squad
Next, I spent some time building a squad around him. I figured a strong midfield to feed him the ball was key. I went with a 4-3-3 formation, because, you know, classic. I put some fast wingers on either side of him, hoping they could whip in some crosses. I also made sure my midfielders had good passing stats.
Testing Him Out
- I jumped into a few Squad Battles matches first, just to get a feel for him. I noticed right away that his strength is insane. Defenders just bounced off him.
- His shooting felt powerful, too. I scored a few absolute bangers from outside the box.
- I tried out different skill moves, but honestly, he’s not the most agile player. Simple stuff works best.
- His pace wasn’t as bad as I expected. He’s not going to win any sprint races against, like, Mbappé, but he’s got enough to get by.
My First Experience
I moved on to Division Rivals. This is where the real test would be. Against better players, I found that I needed to adjust my playstyle. I couldn’t just run straight at defenders anymore. I had to use Lukaku’s strength to hold up the play and bring my teammates into the game. Short passes. And I quickly learned to protect that ball, he gets pushed around less.
Making Adjustments
I also experimented with different chemistry styles. I tried a Hunter at first, to boost his pace and shooting, but I eventually settled on an Engine. The extra agility and passing seemed to suit him better, at least for me.
After a bunch of games, I have to say, I’m a Lukaku convert. He’s not perfect, sure, but he’s a lot of fun to use. If you play to his strengths, he can be a real game-changer.
My overall feeling is that it takes effort, but you can really get somewhere when you put some thought into it.
