Okay, so I’ve been super hyped about MLB The Show 24, but lately, it’s been driving me nuts with all the lag. It’s been choppy, especially online, and it’s ruining my games. I tried a bunch of stuff, and I finally figured out some things that helped, so I thought I’d share my experience.
My Troubleshooting Journey
First, I restarted my console. It’s the oldest trick in the book, but you know, sometimes it actually works! Didn’t help much this time, though.
Next, I made sure my internet connection was solid. I ran a speed test on my console to check my download and upload speeds. They looked alright, but I still reset my router, just to be safe. Unplugged it, waited about 30 seconds, and plugged it back in.
I also checked for game updates. Sometimes, developers release patches to fix bugs and performance issues, so it’s always a good idea to make sure you’re running the latest version. I went to the game’s menu and looked for an “Update” option. There was one and i started it.
Then, I started messing with the in-game settings.
- I lowered the graphics settings. I figured maybe my console was struggling to keep up with all the fancy visuals, so I turned down some of the details.
- I made sure that I had the game installed on the internal storage, an external hard drive can be slower.
I also thought about other things that could be interfering.
- I closed any other applications running in the background.
- I even cleared the cache on my console. Found the instructions on how to do that online.
- If you are playing on a display that is not a monitor you should look for a “Game Mode”. This is not applicable to every screen, but for those that have it, it might fix your problem.
What Finally Worked
After trying all that, I finally saw some improvement! It seems like a combination of resetting my router, updating the game, and cleaning the cache did the trick. The game still has a little bit of lag sometimes, but it’s way more playable now.
It’s a bummer that I had to go through all this trouble, but at least I can finally enjoy the game without wanting to throw my controller at the screen. I hope this helps anyone else who’s struggling with lag in MLB The Show 24!
