Okay, folks, let’s dive into my little project: building a Pittsburgh Steelers pool table light. I’m a huge Steelers fan, and I wanted something unique for my game room.

First, I brainstormed some ideas. I knew I wanted something that screamed “Steelers,” but also, you know, actually functioned as a light. I looked around online, but couldn’t find exactly what I was envisioning, so I decided to build my own.
I started by gathering materials. Here’s what I ended up using:
- A basic, rectangular light fixture – nothing fancy, just something functional. I picked this up at a local hardware store.
- Some black and yellow paint. Gotta have the team colors!
- Steelers decals. I found some nice, large ones online.
- A sheet of translucent white acrylic. This was to diffuse the light and give it a nice, even glow. I got this at a plastics supply place.
- Some basic tools: screwdriver, drill, saw, sandpaper, paintbrushes, etc.
Then, I got down to business. First step was taking the light fixture apart. I really only needed the frame and the electrical components. Be careful with this part, please disconnect the power first!
Next, I prepped the frame. I sanded it down a bit to give the paint something to grip onto. Then, I painted the whole thing black. I let that dry completely – patience is key, my friends, or you’ll end up with a sticky mess.
Once the black paint was dry, I added some yellow accents. I wasn’t going for anything too complicated, just some simple stripes along the edges. Again, I let that dry thoroughly.
While the paint was drying, I worked on the acrylic sheet. I measured it carefully to fit inside the light fixture frame, and then cut it to size. Pro-tip: use a fine-toothed saw and go slow to avoid chipping the acrylic.
After the acrylic was cut, I applied the Steelers decals. This took some patience and a steady hand to get them positioned just right. I used a credit card to smooth out any bubbles.
Finally, I reassembled everything. I placed the acrylic sheet inside the frame, then carefully reconnected the electrical components. I screwed everything back together, and… voila!

I hung the light above my pool table, plugged it in, and flipped the switch. Man, it looked awesome! The light was nicely diffused, and the Steelers logos really popped. It’s exactly what I wanted, and it’s way cooler than anything I could have bought.
It was a good productive work, though it took some hours, I really enjoyed the process. And now, my pool table looks better than ever!
