Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Starfield, and I finally figured out how to make the “Industrialist” background work for me. It took a while, I gotta admit. I started off thinking, “Oh, this’ll be easy, I’ll just craft a bunch of stuff and sell it.” Nope. Not that simple.

First, I spent a bunch of time just wandering around, picking up every resource I could find. Like, seriously, everything. My ship was constantly overloaded, but I didn’t care. I was hoarding like a space squirrel preparing for winter.
Getting Started with Resources
My initial idea was all wrong. I was trying to be this big-shot manufacturer right from the get-go. Turns out, you gotta start small. So, I began to focus on the basics. I looked for the things with the easiest-to-find resources:
- Adaptive Frames: These are used to construct the basic structures. I kept running into these, but they seemed so boring. I began to farm the basic components for these.
- Basic manufactured components: Just get into the habit of making them, and you’ll naturally find a use for them.
I started with these because, honestly, they seemed the least complicated. Less complex materials, less hassle, I don’t need to look for all the exotic stuff at this stage.
Building Up My Production
Once I had a decent stockpile of basic items, I started to try expanding. Then I get to the point where I need better skills!
I invested skill points into things that boosted my resource gathering and crafting, and then I focused more on the Persuasion skill, cause that’s gonna lower my cost of buying resources, and boost what I can sell them for.
I kept at it, though. And slowly, very slowly, I started to see a profit. I’d find a vendor who needed something specific, and I’d already have a ton of it in my cargo hold. Boom! Instant cash. Okay, not instant, it still takes a while to offload everything, but you get the idea.
Scaling Up (Slowly)
After many hours, I finally got to the point where I can start to produce some more exciting things. By this point, I figured it’s also probably a good idea to get into Outpost building, so that I can more effectively farm resources, and also have a good location to build all of the industrial workbenches.
The key, I think, is patience. And not being afraid to look like a complete packrat. It is a tough background, but I am finally beginning to get the hang of it.
