Okay, so I’ve been meaning to upgrade the rod holders on my boat for a while now. The old ones were just… well, old. Flimsy, kinda rusty, and not really up to the task of holding my heavier gear. I did some digging around and kept hearing good things about Roberts rod holders, so I figured I’d give them a shot.

First, I measured the space where I wanted to install the new holders. Gotta make sure they’ll actually fit, right? No point in ordering something that ends up being too big or too small. Then i search which type fits my boat.
Next up, I ordered a pair of the Roberts holders. I went with the flush mount ones, because I like the clean look. The package comes very quickly.
Installation Day!
Time to get my hands dirty! I gathered my tools: a drill, some screws, a screwdriver, and a bit of sealant (gotta keep things watertight, you know?).
- Step 1: I carefully marked the spots where I wanted to mount the holders, using the measurements I took earlier. Double-checked everything, because once you drill, there’s no going back.
- Step 2: I drilled pilot holes at each of the marked spots. This makes it easier to drive the screws in straight and prevents the fiberglass from cracking.
- Step 3: I applied a bead of sealant around the edges of the mounting holes. This is super important to prevent water from seeping in and causing damage.
- Step 4: I positioned the rod holders over the holes and carefully screwed them into place. Made sure everything was nice and snug, but not overly tight.
And that’s it! The new Roberts rod holders are installed and they look fantastic. They feel super solid and sturdy, and I’m confident they’ll handle my fishing gear without any problems. I even tested them out with a couple of my rods, and they fit perfectly. Now I’m ready to test them for real next weekend!
Overall, I’m really happy with this upgrade. It was a pretty straightforward DIY project, and the results are definitely worth it. If you’re looking to upgrade your rod holders, I’d definitely recommend checking out Roberts. I should have done before, what a change!
