My Saturday with Tennis and Old Boxes
So, I spent a good chunk of my Saturday trying to finally tackle the mountain of old papers and junk I’ve got stored away. You know how it is, stuff just piles up over the years. Had the tennis on in the background, saw it was Fernandez vs Wozniacki. Quite the match-up, right? Young energy versus that solid experience.

I was sorting through these ancient receipts and manuals, felt like an archaeologist. Found instructions for a VCR I haven’t owned in probably fifteen years. It’s funny what you keep. Anyway, while I was digging through this paper graveyard, I kept half-listening to the commentary. Fernandez bursting onto the scene, Wozniacki making this incredible comeback story after having kids and everything. It got me thinking, really.
It reminded me a bit of when I first started my little side gig, building those custom shelves. I was all enthusiasm, maybe a bit raw, like Fernandez out there. Just going for it. Then you see someone like Wozniacki, methodical, knows the court, knows how to pace herself. That’s kind of where I feel I am now, maybe? Learned a few things the hard way, slowed down a bit, focus more on doing it right rather than just fast.
Here’s what I was dealing with, basically:
- Boxes overflowing with old bills.
- Manuals for gadgets long gone.
- Random notes I barely remembered writing.
- A surprising number of dried-up pens.
Back to the match, though. Every time Fernandez hit some amazing winner, I’d look up from my pile of dusty papers. Then Wozniacki would grind out a point, patient, making Fernandez play that extra ball. It’s a classic story, isn’t it? The flashy newcomer and the seasoned pro. Made me wonder about my own approach to things these days. Am I relying too much on routine, like maybe Wozniacki sometimes does? Or maybe I need more of that youthful Fernandez energy to shake things up?
By the end of the afternoon, I hadn’t finished the boxes, not even close. But watching those two compete, while I was stuck dealing with my own past clutter, it gave me a weird perspective. Made me appreciate both the spark of starting something new and the wisdom that comes from sticking with it for the long haul. Didn’t really solve my paper problem, but hey, it was food for thought while I was shuffling through old junk.
