Okay, so this week, setting my fantasy lineup, I hit a bit of a snag with Zack Moss. Had him sitting there, looking at me from the bench, and I really had to stop and think, you know, should I actually start Zack Moss this week?

First thing I always do, I went straight to check the matchup. Who are the Colts playing? Gotta know if the defense they’re up against is tough on running backs or if they leak points like a sieve. Looked it up, and honestly, it wasn’t great, wasn’t terrible. Kinda middle-of-the-pack D against the run. So, no strong feelings either way just based on that.
The real kicker, the thing I knew I needed to dig into, was Jonathan Taylor. Is JT fully back in the mix? Because we all saw what happened earlier in the season when Moss was the main guy – he was killing it. But Taylor’s shadow looms large, man. I started poking around, reading practice reports, checking the usual spots for injury updates. Seemed like Taylor was getting healthier, practicing more. That definitely threw some cold water on the idea of starting Moss.
I remembered watching last week’s game, or at least checking the box score and snap counts afterwards. Moss’s playing time took a nosedive once Taylor started getting more carries. You just can’t ignore that trend. It tells a story, you know?
Sorting Through the Mess
So, I sat there, weighing the options in my head. It went something like this:
- On the one hand: Maybe Moss still gets those valuable goal-line touches? He’s shown he can punch it in. And hey, maybe Taylor isn’t 100% ready for a full workload just yet, they might ease him in? Wishful thinking, maybe.
- On the other hand: Taylor is THE guy when healthy. Coaches usually lean on their stars. That drop in snaps last week felt pretty significant, like a sign of things to come. And relying on a touchdown feels pretty desperate if the volume isn’t there.
Then I looked at who else I had on my roster at running back. Had a couple of other guys, maybe not superstars, but guys getting regular work. One had a tough matchup himself, but he’s the undisputed lead back for his team. The other guy’s been pretty steady, giving me a decent floor each week.
Making the Call. After mulling it over, checking the Taylor news one last time, and thinking about that sinking feeling I got seeing Moss’s usage drop… I just couldn’t justify starting him. The risk felt too high compared to the potential reward, especially with Taylor looking ready to take back his throne.
So, yeah, I benched Zack Moss this week. Slotted in my steadier, if less exciting, option instead. Felt like the safer play. Sometimes you gotta protect your floor instead of chasing a boom week that might not happen. We’ll see how it plays out come Sunday, right? That’s fantasy for ya.
