My Plan to Watch the Big Game Got Derailed
Alright, so the plan was simple. It was that Warriors vs Lakers night, you know the one. Had it marked down. Told myself, finish work, grab some takeout, kick back, and just enjoy the game. A classic matchup, always fun to watch, no matter who you root for.

I got home, feeling pretty good. Dropped my bag, already thinking about what kind of food to get. Chinese? Pizza? The usual debate. But then, I walked past the kitchen sink. Uh oh. Water. Not a lot, but enough to make you stop. A slow drip, drip, drip from under the sink pipe.
Okay, change of plans. Forget the takeout for a minute. Gotta check this out. So, I cleared out all the cleaning stuff from under the sink. Bottles, sponges, the whole mess. Got down on my knees, flashlight in hand. Yep, definitely a leak. Coming from the connection thingy, the P-trap I think they call it.
First thought: maybe it’s just loose. Grabbed a wrench. Tried tightening the plastic nut. Gave it a little turn. Drip… drip… still dripping. Okay, maybe tighter? Gave it another nudge. Felt a little too easy. Then, snap. Crap. The plastic nut cracked. Now it wasn’t a drip, it was a steady trickle.
- Grabbed towels. Lots of towels.
- Put a bucket under the pipe.
- Turned off the water valve under the sink. Thank goodness that worked.
So there I was. It’s getting close to game time. My kitchen sink is out of commission. I got a cracked pipe fitting and a bucket filling up. No way I’m relaxing now. Had to figure out how to fix this properly.
Ended up searching online on my phone, trying to figure out what part I needed. Then realized, stores are probably closing soon. Jumped in the car, drove to the hardware store. Found the plumbing aisle. Stared at a wall of white plastic bits. Found something that looked right. Bought it, along with that plumber’s tape stuff.
Got back home. Game had already started, could hear the faint sounds from a neighbor’s TV somewhere. Missed the whole first quarter, maybe more. Laid out the towels again, unscrewed the broken parts, cleaned everything up, put the tape on the threads, screwed the new piece on. Carefully this time. Turned the water back on slowly. Waited. Watched. No drips. Success!
By the time I cleaned up everything, the game was almost over. Saw the last few minutes. Didn’t even know the score properly. Made some instant noodles instead of the takeout I planned. Wasn’t quite the evening I had in mind. Just reminds you, sometimes the simple plans get totally wrecked by a stupid little pipe. Way she goes, I guess. Couldn’t even tell you who won that night without looking it up later.
