Okay, so check it out, I was messing around the other day and thought, “Hey, what if I tried to come up with a new Steelers logo?” Just for fun, you know?

First off, I grabbed my trusty iPad and fired up Procreate. I’m no pro artist or anything, but I can doodle. I started by sketching out some ideas. I wanted to keep the core feel of the Steelers logo – that tough, industrial vibe – but maybe give it a little modern twist.

My initial thought was: how can I keep the hypocycloids but still make it fresh?

  • I tried playing with the shapes, making them sharper, more angular.
  • Then I messed around with the colors, thinking about maybe adding a gradient or a metallic sheen.
  • After that, I sketched a version where the hypocycloids were kinda bursting out from behind a steel plate.

Yeah, it sounds kinda crazy, I know. But hey, it was just an experiment.

Anyway, after a few hours of sketching, I had a bunch of different concepts. Some were terrible, some were kinda cool. The one I ended up focusing on was a stylized hypocycloid design where each shape was slightly distorted to look like it had been forged in a furnace. I darkened the inner shadows, adding some gradients to each of the shapes. It gave the logo more depth, more like it was actually made of hot metal.

Then came the refining part. I zoomed in, tweaking every line, every curve, until I was happy with it. I even spent a good half hour just adjusting the spacing between the shapes. I wanted it to be balanced, you know?

After that, I played around with the background. I tried a few different options, but eventually settled on a simple, dark gray color. It made the logo pop, without being too distracting. Think something like the color of aged steel.

And that was pretty much it! It took me a whole afternoon, but in the end, I had a brand new Steelers logo. I even showed it to a few friends, and they all thought it was pretty neat. Would they actually change the logo? Probably not. But hey, it was a fun project, and I learned a lot in the process.

So, that’s my story. Just a bit of fun with design. Who knows, maybe one day the Steelers will give me a call.
