Alright, so today I found myself going down a bit of a rabbit hole, you know how it is. Was just scrolling through some sports stuff, saw mentions of the NBA Summer League kicking off soon. That got me thinking, who are folks picking for the MVP this year?

So, I did what anyone does, right? Opened up a new tab and just typed in “summer league mvp odds”. Pretty straightforward. Got a flood of results, mostly sports betting sites and some articles from the usual sports news places.
Didn’t really want to get into the weeds with actual betting, more just curious about the names being floated. I clicked around a few news articles first. You see a lot of the top draft picks mentioned, which makes sense. Guys like Chet Holmgren last year, Keegan Murray the year before… seems like high draft picks often get the nod if they play well.
Who popped up?
I started jotting down a few names that appeared frequently across different sites. It wasn’t super scientific, just seeing who was getting the most buzz.
- The top couple of draft picks were always there, obviously. Teams want to see them shine.
- Sometimes second-year players who didn’t play much their rookie season get mentioned too.
- Occasionally, you see an undrafted guy who people think might surprise.
It’s funny, the odds themselves were kinda all over the place depending on where you looked, if you looked at the betting lines specifically. Some had one guy as a clear favorite, others had it more wide open.
Honestly, it’s Summer League. It feels like a bit of a crapshoot trying to predict this stuff seriously. It’s more about development and seeing flashes from players than winning this specific award, I think. But still, it’s interesting to see who the so-called experts are highlighting before the games even start.
I spent maybe half an hour just clicking through different opinions, reading why they thought Player X had a good shot or why Player Y was a dark horse. It’s just noise mostly, but entertaining noise.
Didn’t place any bets or anything. Just satisfied my curiosity for the moment. It’s always fun to see the early hype and then watch the actual games to see how wrong (or right) everyone was. That’s the real entertainment for me.
