Alright, let’s talk about them Yankees, you know, the baseball team. Folks keep jabberin’ about ‘em, so I figured I’d put in my two cents, even if I don’t know beans about fancy stats and all that jazz.
The Yankees, Been Around a Long Time
Now, these Yankees, they ain’t new kids on the block. Been around longer than I can remember, since way back in 1903, they tell me. That’s a heap of years, even for an old gal like me. They play in somethin’ called the American League East, whatever that means. Sounds important, I guess.
Lots of Wins, Lots of Big Names
People say the Yankees win a lot. World Series this, World Series that. I heard they won it in ’23, then again in ’27 and ’28, and a whole bunch of times after that. ’32, ’36, ’37, ’38, ’39… too many to count! They got big names too, fellas like Derek Jeter, the one with all them hits, and that Lou Gehrig fella. Big shots, I reckon.
- 1923 World Series Champs
- 1927 World Series Champs
- 1928 World Series Champs
- … and many more, they say
That 1988 Team, What About Them?
Lately, I keep hearin’ about the 1988 Yankees. Don’t know why, maybe they were somethin’ special. Folks got all these lists of players, every fella who played a game that year. Musta been a big team, lots of fellas runnin’ around in them pinstripes.
Comparing Teams, Like Apples and Oranges, I Say
Then there’s all this talk about comparing teams. Them 1998 Yankees, they say, might be the best ever. Won a whole bunch of games, 114 in the regular season, somethin’ like that. Beat everybody in the playoffs too. But how can you compare, I ask ya? Every team’s different, every year’s different. Seems like a fool’s errand to me.
Yankees History, It’s a Whole Thing
Seems like the Yankees ain’t just a team, it’s a whole history lesson. From way back when, all the way up to now, they been playin’ this baseball game. And folks are writin’ books about ‘em, tellin’ stories, makin’ a big fuss. Well, I guess they must be doin’ somethin’ right, all these years.
Even Lost a Game to Some Dodgers Fella
Heard on the radio the other day, Yankees lost a game to some team called the Dodgers. Some fella named Freddie hit a home run with the bases loaded, in the last inning! Imagine that. Even the best teams lose sometimes, I guess. That’s baseball, or so they tell me.
Yankees Fans, They’re Everywhere
And the fans, Lordy, there’s a bunch of ‘em. Everywhere you go, you see someone wearin’ that Yankees hat, that dark blue with the white letters. They’re passionate, those fans. Yellin’ and cheerin’, gettin’ all worked up over a game. Guess that’s what makes it fun, though I don’t rightly understand it.
So, That’s the Yankees, As Far As I Can Tell
So, there you have it. That’s what I know about the Yankees. A whole lotta history, a whole lotta wins, and a whole lotta fans. They been around a long time, and I reckon they’ll be around a long time more. Whether they’re the best ever, or just another team, well, that’s for you to decide. Me, I’m just an old lady tryin’ to make sense of it all.
They got stats, too, lots of ’em. Batting this, pitching that. Numbers and figures everywhere. I don’t pay no mind to that stuff, makes my head spin. But I hear it’s important to some folks, so there ya go.
And they write books about them, too. Big thick books about the best teams and the best players. Must be somethin’ to it, all that writin’. Me, I prefer a good romance novel, but to each their own, I always say.
Anyway, that’s my take on them Yankees. Not much, I know, but it’s all I got. They’re a baseball team, a famous one, and folks seem to care a whole heap about ’em. That’s good enough for me.
