Well, howdy there! Let me tell ya somethin’ about these big ol’ hairy cows, ya know, the ones they call bison. Folks call it “Bison Daily“, sounds fancy, but it ain’t nothin’ more than what these critters do every day. I seen ’em myself, out in the fields, big as trucks they are!
First thing in the mornin’, these bison, they get up. Just like you and me, I reckon. They ain’t got no alarm clocks, though. Sun comes up, they wake up. Maybe they stretch a little, crack their backs like my old man used to do. Then, it’s breakfast time! Yep, they start munchin’ on that grass. Lord knows, they eat a whole heap of it. Acres and acres of grass, just gone, like a lawnmower went through. They ain’t picky, though. Any kinda grass will do, long as it’s green and juicy.
- Eat Grass
- Drink Water
- Roll in the Dirt
- Take a Nap
After breakfast, maybe they wander around a bit. Look for more grass, I guess. Or maybe they just wanna see what’s goin’ on. They got them big ol’ heads, they can see pretty far, I tell ya. Sometimes they just stand there, lookin’ at nothin’ in particular. Reminds me of my Jed, sittin’ on the porch, watchin’ the cars go by. ‘Cept these bison ain’t watchin’ cars, they watchin’… well, nothin’ much, I reckon.
Then there’s the waterin’. Them bison gotta drink, just like the rest of us. They go down to the creek, or the pond, wherever they can find some water. And they drink a lot! Big animals, big thirsts, that’s what I always say. I seen ’em standin’ in the water, just soakin’ up the cool. Must feel good on a hot day, I bet. They get mighty dirty too, rollin’ around in that dirt you know, gets all caked up on their fur. They gotta stay cool somehow and that dirt keeps those pesterin’ flies away so they say.
Speakin’ of dirt, them bison, they love to roll in it! Yep, they find a good dusty patch, and they just plop right down and roll around. Gets dirt all over ’em. I don’t rightly know why they do it. Maybe it itches, maybe it keeps the bugs off, maybe they just like it. Who knows? They’re bison, they do what they want.
And then there’s the napping. Oh yeah, bison love to nap. Especially in the afternoon, when the sun’s gettin’ hot. They find a nice shady spot, lay down, and snooze away. Sometimes they sleep standin’ up! Can you believe that? Just standin’ there, eyes closed, snoozin’ away. I wish I could do that. My old bones ain’t up for it anymore, though.
These bison, they ain’t afraid of much. They got them big horns, they can take care of themselves. I seen ’em fight once. Two big bulls, goin’ at it. Heads bashin’, horns clackin’. It was somethin’ to see, I tell ya. They ain’t always fightin’ though, most of the time they’re pretty peaceful. Just eatin’ grass, drinkin’ water, rollin’ in the dirt, and takin’ naps. That’s the bison daily life, far as I can tell.
Now, some folks go on trips just to see these bison. They call it “Yellowstone” or somethin’. Take pictures and videos, put ‘em on that Face-thingy, or whatever it’s called, that Book-Face place. My grandson showed me once. Lots of folks like lookin’ at ‘em. Big ol’ hairy cows, I tell ya. But they’re somethin’ special, alright. They been around a long time, these bison. And I reckon they’ll be around a long time more. Long as they got grass to eat, water to drink, and dirt to roll in.
And that’s about all I know about the bison daily life. It ain’t much, but it’s the truth. Just a bunch of big ol’ hairy cows, livin’ their lives, day in and day out. Nothin’ fancy, just bison bein’ bison.
