Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout this here “average PGA club head speed” thing. I ain’t no fancy golfer, ya know, but I’ve seen them fellas on TV swattin’ at them balls. They hit ’em a country mile, they do.
So, this here “club head speed,” it’s how fast that club thingy is movin’ right before it smacks that little white ball. The faster it’s movin’, the farther that ball’s gonna go. Simple as that. Ain’t no rocket science, even I can figure that out.
- Faster the club thingy moves,
- Faster the ball goes,
- Farther the ball flies.
Now, them fellas on the PGA tour, them pros, they swing that club somethin’ fierce. I heard tell they’re swingin’ it near ’bout 116 miles per hour! Can ya believe that? That’s faster than my ol’ pickup truck goin’ downhill with a load of hay! No wonder them balls go so far. They’re practically flyin’!
They got these special sticks, too, longer ones they call “drivers.” Seems like the longer the stick, the faster they can swing it. They say them driver sticks are about 45 inches long, give or take. That’s longer than my garden hoe, I tell ya! And them fellas, they can get about 6 miles per hour more speed outta them drivers than them other shorter sticks, the ones they call “3-woods.”
So, you got this speed thing, right? And that speed makes the ball go fast. And then the ball goes far. It all kinda connects, ya see? Like linkin’ sausages, one thing leads to another.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ I know all the ins and outs of it. But I reckon it’s like this: you gotta be strong, yeah, but you gotta be smooth too. Can’t just go flailin’ around like a scarecrow in a windstorm. These fellas, they got it down to a science, I guess. All that twistin’ and turnin’ and whatnot. Makes my ol’ back hurt just watchin’ ’em.
And get this, they got these fancy machines now, these “Trackman” things, that measure how fast they’re swingin’. Says the average fella, not a pro mind you, just your average Joe, he’s swingin’ around 93 miles per hour. And they hit it about 214 yards, give or take. That’s still a pretty good whack, ain’t it? More’n I could ever do, that’s for sure. I’d be lucky to hit it 100 yards, and probably straight into the woods!
So, to sum it all up, this “average PGA club head speed” is just about how fast them fellas swing them golf sticks. And the faster they swing, the farther that ball goes. Them pros, they swing it real fast, and them balls go a country mile. Your average fella, he swings it a bit slower, but he still gets a good poke at it. And that’s all there is to it, far as I can tell.
Anyways, it’s all a bit much for an ol’ lady like me. I’m more comfortable with a hoe in my hand than a golf club. But it’s kinda interestin’, I guess, how fast them fellas can swing them things. Maybe I’ll stick to watchin’ ’em on TV, though. Less chance of breakin’ somethin’, including myself! And besides, someone’s gotta make the lemonade and sandwiches for when the men come in from a hard day of… swattin’ balls.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens. They ain’t as fast as them golf balls, that’s for sure, but they’re a whole lot tastier!
One last thing, seems like this “average clubhead speed” is real important for them golfin’ types. It’s what they talk about, what they practice, what they’re always tryin’ to improve. Just like me and my tomato plants. Always tryin’ to make ‘em bigger and better each year.
