Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about these fellas, Danny Granger and Darren Collison. Folks ’round here, they used to yap about ’em all the time, specially when they was playin’ ball.
Danny Granger, now he was a big deal. Folks remember him, ya know? He played for the Pacers, a real good scorer, they say. He was an All-Star, that means he was real good at throwin’ that ball in the hoop. But then, injuries, they got to him, slowed him down somethin’ fierce.
- He played for the Pacers a long time, nine years they say.
- Folks say he was a top scorer, one of the best.
- But injuries, they messed him up good.
Then there’s Darren Collison. He played too, also with the Pacers for a bit, they say. This boy, he was from New Orleans, played ball in high school there. Had a good career in the NBA, played for a long time, ten years or so. But then, he up and quit. Just like that. Said somethin’ ’bout his family and his faith bein’ more important.
Now, both these boys, they’re somethin’ called Jehovah’s Witnesses. That’s their religion, ya see. They got beliefs, and those beliefs, they guide ’em. Like that Collison fella, he couldn’t even go to a birthday party ’cause of it. His teammate, Victor somethin’, invited him, but he couldn’t go. His beliefs wouldn’t let him. Granger too, he talked about how his faith, that Jehovah Witness thing, helped him make decisions, big ones, ‘specially ’bout his job playin’ ball.
It’s kinda interestin’, ain’t it? These fellas, they coulda kept playin’, makin’ all that money, but they chose somethin’ else. They chose their faith. It’s like Collison said, somethin’ ’bout lovin’ basketball, but knowin’ there’s somethin’ more important. Family and faith, that’s what he said was more important. Makes ya think, don’t it?
NBA Players and Jehovah’s Witnesses ain’t somethin’ you hear about every day. But these fellas, Granger and Collison, and that Dedmon fella too, they’re all part of it. They show you that there’s more to life than just playin’ ball, even if you’re real good at it.
Some folks, they might not get it. They might say, “Why quit when you’re doin’ so well?” But it ain’t ’bout the money or the fame for these fellas. It’s ’bout somethin’ deeper. It’s about their faith, their family. It’s about what they believe in, ya know?
Granger and Collison, they played for the Pacers, that’s somethin’ they got in common. They both good at basketball. That’s another thing they got in common. But most importantly, they both Jehovah’s Witnesses. And that faith, that’s what really matters to ’em. That’s what guides ’em. That’s what makes ’em who they are.
So, next time you hear ’bout Danny Granger or Darren Collison, don’t just think about the basketball. Think about their faith, and the choices they made. ‘Cause that’s the real story, ya see. That’s what makes them fellas special, not just the ball playin’.
Folks ’round here, they used to argue about who was better, Granger or Collison. But see, it ain’t about who’s better at basketball. It’s about who’s true to themselves, true to their beliefs. And from what I hear, both these boys, they’re doin’ just that. They are followin’ their faith, and ain’t nothin’ more important than that, I reckon.
So, that’s the story of Danny Granger and Darren Collison, least as I heard it. Two fellas, good at basketball, but even better at followin’ their hearts and their faith. And that, in my book, is somethin’ to be admired. It really is.
