Okay, so I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, and today I finally sat down and did it – creating player ratings for the AC Milan vs. Napoli match. It’s something I like to do after big games, just for fun, and to, you know, kind of solidify my own opinions about how everyone played.

Getting Started
First, I needed to gather the information. I re-watched some highlights of the match – you know, key moments, goals, big saves, that sort of thing. This is important to make sure I do not judge based on memory, which is easy to get wrong.
The Process
- I opened up a simple text editor. Nothing fancy, just something to jot down names and numbers.
- Then, I went through each player, one by one, and thought about their performance. What did they do well? Where did they struggle?
- I decided to use a simple 1-10 scale. 5 is average, anything above is good, anything below is, well, not so good.
- I tried to be as objective as possible, I have feeling for those teams.
Assigning the Ratings
This is the main part, I wrote down each player’s name from both teams, and next to it, I put the number I thought they deserved. For some players, it was easy. Like, if a striker scored a hat-trick, they’re obviously getting a high rating. But for others, it was trickier. You have to consider their overall contribution, not just the flashy moments.
Review and Finalize
Once I had all the ratings down, I took a step back and reviewed everything. Did it all make sense? Was I being too harsh or too generous on anyone? I made a few tweaks here and there, just to make sure I was happy with the final result.
I really enjoyed that I can finally share my opinions. Maybe next time I can try to compare with others’ ratings.
