Okay, so I’ve been totally obsessed with Animal Crossing: New Horizons lately, like everyone else, right? And I saw these gorgeous blossom lanterns in someone’s island photo and I was like, “I NEED those.” So began my quest. Turns out, getting them isn’t as straightforward as just buying them from Nook’s Cranny.

First, I had to figure out when I could even get them. I did a bit of time traveling and found it. It’s during the Cherry Blossom season, which in the Northern Hemisphere, is April 1st to April 10th. I made sure my Switch’s date was set within that range. No cherry blossoms, no lantern recipe – that’s the key!
Then came the frustrating part: hunting for the recipe. I learned that the DIY recipe for the blossom-viewing lantern only comes from those floating balloon presents. So, I spent hours running around my island, staring at the sky, waiting for balloons. It was a grind, I’m not gonna lie.
My strategy? I ran up and down the beach, because that seemed to be where balloons spawned most often. I popped every single balloon I saw, even if it was just furniture or clothes inside. You never know when that precious recipe will appear! I also listened for the sound of the balloons it is obvious. That helped me pinpoint their location.
Crafting the lanterns
- 6x Cherry-blossom petals
- 4x Hardwood
Cherry-blossom petals? Easy peasy! I just shook the heck out of the cherry blossom trees (the ones with the pink leaves) with my net and caught the petals as they fell. The hardwood, I already had a ton of from chopping trees regularly. Also you can easily buy these materials from others with Nookazon.
Once I had the materials, I whipped out my DIY workbench and crafted a bunch of lanterns. They looked SO pretty, especially at night! I placed them all around my island, near my house, by the river, everywhere. It gave my island such a magical, festive vibe.
So, yeah, that’s my blossom lantern adventure. It took some patience and a lot of balloon-popping, but it was totally worth it. Now my island is glowing, and I’m one happy camper!
