Today, I’m gonna share something I did with my kid – a little basketball training session. He’s just a tot, so we kept it super basic and fun, you know?
First things first, I found a small basketball, something he could actually get his tiny hands around. A regular ball would’ve been way too big for him.
- I started by just letting him hold the ball, feel it, and bounce it around. Just getting used to the ball was a big step, haha.
- Then, I showed him how to dribble. Now, obviously, he didn’t really get it at first. It was more like patting the ball, but hey, he was trying!
- We practiced that for a while, just walking around and dribbling. He was having a blast, stumbling a bit, but always with a huge grin on his face.
Next up, shooting.
I got a mini hoop, one of those that can stand on the floor. Set that up, and we started with some super close-range shots.
- I showed him how to hold the ball, how to bend his knees, and how to push it towards the hoop.
- Most of his shots didn’t even come close, but he cheered every time he threw the ball, no matter what. Pure joy!
- After countless tries, he finally made one! The excitement, oh boy! He jumped up and down, yelling, “I did it!” It was the cutest thing ever.
We played like this for maybe an hour, just dribbling and shooting. We didn’t keep score or anything, just pure, simple fun. It was a really good way for us to bond, and he got some exercise too.
By the end, he was tired but so happy. And me? I was just a proud dad, watching my little guy enjoy something new. It was a win-win, for sure. It wasn’t about becoming the next Michael Jordan or LeBron James, it was just a dad and his tot having a good time with a basketball. That’s all that matters, right?
