Well, let me tell you somethin’ about this here Leighton Vander Esch rookie card. My grandson, he’s a good boy, he collects these football cards. He’s always talkin’ about ’em. He says this Leighton fella, he’s a big deal. Says he plays for the Cowboys. Now, I don’t know much about football, but I know what my grandson likes. He keeps talkin’ about this Leighton Vander Esch rookie card. Says it is somethin’ special.
He showed me one of these cards the other day. It’s got a picture of that Leighton fella on it. Looks like a nice young man. My grandson, he says it’s a rookie card. He says that means it’s from when this Leighton fella was just startin’ out. He keeps tellin’ me he wants one of those 2018 rookie cards. Somethin’ about that year bein’ special. I just nod my head and listen. Don’t really understand all of it, to be honest.
He keeps goin’ on and on about different kinds of these cards. He was talkin’ about somethin’ called a “Donruss” card. Said there’s a 2018 Donruss #360 Leighton Vander Esch. I don’t know what all them numbers mean. Then he mentioned another one, somethin’ called an “Elite”. Said it was a 2018 Donruss Elite #119 Leighton Vander Esch. And then, get this, he said there was a pink one! A 2018 Donruss Elite Pink #119 Leighton Vander Esch. A pink football card! Who ever heard of such a thing?
My grandson, he says you can buy these cards online. I don’t understand that, but he’s a smart boy. He says you can find a whole bunch of these Leighton Vander Esch rookie card things online. Says you can get them all in one shipment, whatever that means. He’s always on that computer, lookin’ at this stuff. He says these cards, they cost money. He says some are cheap, some are expensive. Depends on what kind of card it is, I guess.
He showed me a website once where they sell these things. I seen a whole bunch of different Leighton Vander Esch rookie card listed. He says some of ’em are “authentic,” whatever that means. And he says some of them go for more than $250! Can you believe that? $250 for a little piece of cardboard with a picture on it! It’s crazy, I tell ya. But if it makes him happy, I guess it’s alright.
- He says there are different “sets” of cards.
- This Leighton Vander Esch rookie card is in at least 4 sets, whatever that means.
- He keeps sayin’ this one card, somethin’ called a “Contenders,” is a big deal.
- He says it’s a 2018 Contenders #154 Rookie Ticket Auto.
- Sounds important, I guess.
He showed me this other card, a real fancy one. He says it is called a 2018 Panini Prizm #250 Leighton Vander Esch. Said it was “pristine,” whatever that means. Said it was graded a “10” by some company called PGI. I don’t know what any of that means, but it sure sounded fancy. He says that one’s real expensive.
I asked him why these cards are so important. He said it’s like ownin’ a piece of history. Said these rookie cards are like the first ones ever made for this Leighton fella. I guess that makes sense. It is kind of like keepin’ a picture of someone when they were a baby. But, you know, it is still just a piece of cardboard, ain’t it?
This whole Leighton Vander Esch rookie card thing is a big mystery to me. But my grandson, he loves it. He spends hours lookin’ at them cards. He even trades them with his friends. They get together and talk about all these different players and their cards. It’s a whole other world, I tell ya. I can’t understand this whole thing, but I know it is important to my grandson. This Leighton Vander Esch rookie card thing seems to be a big part of that world.
He tells me stories about this Leighton Vander Esch fella. Says he’s a good player. Says he’s tough. I reckon he must be if he plays football. I seen them games on TV. Looks rough. My grandson, he seems to know everything about this fella. Where he’s from, how many tackles he made, all that stuff. I just smile and nod. He’s happy, and that’s all that matters to me.
I reckon these Leighton Vander Esch rookie card are like little treasures to my grandson. He keeps them safe in a special box. He handles them real careful, like they’re made of glass. You can tell they mean a lot to him. I try to be supportive. I listen to him talk about them, even though I don’t understand half of what he’s sayin’. It’s his hobby, and I’m glad he has somethin’ he enjoys. As long as he is happy, I am happy. That is all that really matters.
