Okay, so I was messing around online, trying to find something about the Tigers announcers, and I came across a few things that I thought were kinda interesting. Here’s the lowdown on what I found:
First off, I started by looking into who these guys even are, you know? It seems like the main dude calling the games now is Jason Benetti. They say he just started this gig in 2024. I guess he’s the play-by-play guy, the one who describes all the action as it’s happening.
- So I read that this Benetti guy, he’s got a bunch of different people who work with him.
- Seems like the main one is Craig Monroe. They call him the “lead analyst,” which I guess means he’s the one who explains why things are happening in the game, not just what is happening.
- I saw a couple of other names too – Dan Petry and Kirk Gibson. They probably help out with the commentary too.
Then I dug a bit deeper into where you can even watch these games. It turns out the Tigers games are mostly on this channel called Bally Sports Detroit. I guess it used to be called Fox Sports Detroit, but they changed the name. I also found out that before Bally Sports, the games were on two of the main local TV stations, WJBK and WDIV, for a really long time.
Past Announcers
I stumbled upon some history stuff about past announcers, too. There was one name that kept popping up: Ernie Harwell. Apparently, he was the voice of the Tigers for a super long time. People seem to really love this guy, so he must have been pretty good.
I also noticed that there were more than 13,000 votes on something. So, yeah, that’s what I found out about the Tigers announcers. It wasn’t easy, some of the information wasn’t clear, but I did my best to try and get to the bottom of it.
And there you have it, that’s my little adventure into the world of Tigers announcers. I hope it was at least a little bit interesting!
I spent a good chunk of time on this, so I hope you enjoyed reading it!
I’ll keep digging around and see what else I can find out in the future. Stay tuned!
