So, I got sucked into this “big mouth nyt crossword” thing today. Let me tell you, it was quite the journey. I started by just staring at the crossword, you know, the usual. It’s one of those things, you see it in The New York Times Magazine, and you think, “Yeah, I can do that.”
The first thing I did was look for the theme. Sometimes these crosswords have a theme, and it can help you figure stuff out. I spent a good chunk of time just reading through all the clues, trying to get a feel for it.
Then, I dove in. I started with the easy ones, the ones I kinda knew right away. Like, there was this one clue, “Capital city founded in 1050” and I’m like, “That’s OSLO.” Boom, filled that in.
But then came the tricky part. I got to this clue “Big Mouth,” and I was stumped. I mean, I tried a few things, but nothing seemed to fit. That’s when I started using the cross-referencing trick. You know, you look at the clues that intersect with the one you’re stuck on, and sometimes that helps. I filled a few more words, they are designed to increase in difficulty throughout the * larger Sunday crossword is always difficult for me. I tried to work on wordplay and themes, but that didn’t really help me with the “Big Mouth” clue.
I decided to take a break. Sometimes you just need to step away, right? I went and did something else for a while, then came back to it with fresh eyes.
And then, it hit me! I remembered seeing somewhere that “Maw” could be an answer for “Big Mouth.” It was in one of those crossword clue websites. So I tried it, and bam, it fit! Three letters, MAW. It was a total “aha!” moment.
I kept going, using the same strategies, filling in a few more words here and there. There were some other tough ones, like “WWI battle locale,” but eventually, I figured that one out too – YSER.
Finally, after what felt like forever, I finished the whole thing. It was a good feeling, I gotta say. I saw someone online saying they spent like 14 days of their life doing these puzzles. That’s wild, but I get it. It’s addictive!
Here are some of the things I learned:
- Looking for themes can be helpful.
- Cross-referencing is your friend.
- Taking breaks is important.
- Sometimes the answer is something you’ve seen before, even if it’s in a weird place like a crossword clue website.
Anyway, that’s my story about tackling the “big mouth nyt crossword.” It was a fun challenge, and I’m definitely going to try another one soon. Maybe next Sunday!
