Alright, let’s talk about this Blake Proehl fella and his injury. Heard some things, seen some things, and I’m gonna tell ya what I know, the way I know how. No fancy talk, just plain and simple.
So, this Blake, he’s a football player, you know, one of them fellas who run around and smash into each other. Heard he’s got a famous daddy, Ricky Proehl, played a long time in the NFL. Guess football runs in the family, like how we all got bad knees in my family, ha!
Anyways, Blake, he signed up with the Vikings, that’s a team, a bunch of guys in purple and yellow. They gave him some money, a whole lot of it, more than I ever seen in my life. Heard it was somethin’ like $867,000, can you believe that? And a guaranteed $100,000 on top of it, just for showin’ up, I reckon. Must be nice!
- Signed as a free agent, that means nobody picked him in the draft, he just joined up.
- They gave him a bonus too, $5,000, enough to buy a whole lotta sweet tea, I tell ya.
But then, somethin’ happened. This boy got hurt. Yep, an injury. They don’t say exactly what it was, just that he got hurt and couldn’t play. Spent all of 2022 on somethin’ called the “practice squad.” That’s like the benchwarmers, I guess. He was singin’ though, heard he put up some videos on that internet thingy, singin’ for his grandma. That’s sweet, I guess. My grandbabies sing for me sometimes too, bless their hearts.
Then, they say the Vikings “waived” him. Sounds fancy, but it just means they let him go. Kinda like when you shoo a fly away, “git outta here!” That was on a Tuesday, they say. Poor fella, got all that money, but can’t play the game he loves.
But hold on a minute! He ain’t done yet. They say he signed a “reserve/future” contract with them Vikings again, just this Monday. So, he’s back, kinda. Still on that practice squad, not playin’ in the real games, just practicin’. Maybe he’ll get better, maybe he won’t. That’s the way it goes sometimes. You get a bump in the road, you gotta figure out how to get over it, or go around it. That’s what life’s all about, ain’t it?
Heard his brother, Austin, played football too, but he got let go too. Seems like this football business is tough. One day you’re up, next day you’re down. Reminds me of that time I tried to make a prize-winning pie for the county fair, thought I had it in the bag, then my oven broke down. Burned that pie to a crisp! Life ain’t fair, I tell ya.
So, that’s the story of Blake Proehl, as far as I can tell. Got hurt, got let go, got another chance. We’ll see what happens. Maybe he’ll play again, maybe he’ll sing, maybe he’ll do somethin’ else entirely. He’s a young fella, got his whole life ahead of him. Just gotta keep on keepin’ on, like we all do.
This whole injury thing, it’s a big deal for these young fellas. They put their bodies on the line, and sometimes, things go wrong. It’s a gamble, I reckon. But if you love the game, you take that gamble. Just like when I married my old man, it was a gamble, but it was a gamble worth takin’. He snored like a freight train, but he was a good man, bless his soul.
So, we’ll keep an eye on this Blake Proehl, see what he does. Maybe he’ll be the next big thing, maybe he won’t. Only time will tell. And that’s all I got to say about that.
