Okay, so I’ve been meaning to dig into this whole Bob Backlund thing. I mean, the guy’s a legend, right? But I wanted to really understand, like, why. So, today was the day I decided to dive in.

Getting Started
First, I pulled up some old matches. Gotta see the guy in action, you know? I started with some of his classic stuff from the ’80s. Just watching him move, it’s wild. He’s so intense, so focused.
The Crossface Chickenwing
Then, I focused on the Crossface Chickenwing. That’s his signature move, and I wanted to see how he actually did it. I watched it over and over, trying to pick up the details. The way he locks it in, the pressure he applies… it’s pretty brutal.
- The grip: How he interlocks his fingers.
- The positioning: How he gets his opponent down.
- The leverage: Man, he really cranks on that thing.
Trying to Mimick
I had to pause the tape and rewind it so many times, but, I needed to see it from begining to end, to make sure it was right!
Practicing(on my dog, lol)
Then the fun started, I tried doing the Crossface Chickenwing on my dog(don’t worry, I’m gentle!), it’s not easy to lock it, I keep messing up the fingers!
The “Crazy” Era
After that, I jumped ahead to his “crazy” run in the ’90s. Man, that was a whole different Backlund. The promos, the intensity… it was something else. I spent a good hour just watching those segments, trying to figure out what made him tick. He was yelling a lot, and it really got my attention!
Putting It All Together
Finally, I sat back and thought about everything I’d seen. I started to understand why he’s such a big deal. It’s not just the moves, it’s the whole package. The intensity, the dedication, the… well, the craziness. It all adds up to something special.
So, yeah, that was my day with Bob Backlund. I learned a lot, and I definitely have a new appreciation for the guy. I’m still not sure I can pull off the Crossface Chickenwing. My dog is still giving me the side-eye, and I am still not sure what to do with my hands!
