Man, I gotta tell you about this whole boxing thing I got into. So, I saw that there were some big fights lined up for July 27th, and I thought, “Why not check it out?” I’m not really a boxing expert or anything, but I figured it would be fun to dive in and see what all the fuss is about.
First, I did a little digging to see what was going on. Turns out, there was this big fight with Claressa Shields, who they call the “GWOAT” – Greatest Woman Of All Time, I guess. She was fighting Vanessa Joanisse. Sounded pretty intense, so I marked that as a must-watch.
Then I found out there was another fight, Joe Joyce versus Derek Chisora. They were calling it a “major event,” so I figured it must be a big deal. I didn’t know much about these guys, but hey, I was in for a boxing night, so why not watch them both?
Next, I had to figure out how to actually watch these fights. I saw that the Shields fight was going to be live on ESPN+. I don’t have cable or anything, so streaming was the way to go. I signed up for the free trial – don’t judge me, a guy’s gotta save money where he can. The fights were supposed to start at 2 PM ET, which was perfect for a chill afternoon.
While I was looking up the schedule, I stumbled upon some other boxing stuff happening around the same time. There was something about a UFC event on Saturday, but I was more focused on the boxing, so I didn’t pay much attention to that.
I also came across this old poster for a Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier fight. They called it the “biggest boxing match in history.” I’ve heard of those guys, of course. It was pretty cool to see a piece of boxing history while I was getting ready for my little boxing marathon.
So, fight day came. I made some snacks, got comfortable on the couch, and started streaming. The first fight was pretty good. I mean, I don’t know all the technical stuff, but it was exciting to watch. Punches were flying, the crowd was going wild, and I was just sitting there, munching on my popcorn, totally engrossed.
- Made snacks
- Got comfy
- Started streaming
- Watched the fight
After that, the Shields fight came on. Man, that woman is a beast! She was all over Joanisse, throwing punches like there was no tomorrow. It was a pretty one-sided fight, to be honest, but still fun to watch. I was impressed, I gotta say.
By the time it was all over, I felt like I had gotten a pretty good introduction to the world of boxing. It was definitely more exciting than I expected. I might even start following it a bit more regularly. Who knows, maybe I’ll become a real boxing fan someday.
Overall, it was a fun experience. I learned a bit about boxing, saw some cool fights, and enjoyed a chill afternoon. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday, if you ask me.
