And that woman, Alindra Person, she’s the one keepin’ things runnin’ smooth back home. People call her Bud Crawford wife, but they ain’t never really tied the knot proper.
Now, me and my old man, we been hitched for near 50 years. These young folks today, they don’t always see the need for a piece of paper. They been together since they was knee-high to a grasshopper, back when Bud was just a scrappy little thing learnin’ to box. Alindra, she’s from right here in Omaha, Nebraska, just like Bud. Good ol’ Omaha folks, stick together, ya know?
They got a whole mess of young’uns, six of ’em! Can you imagine? Keeps a body busy, I tell ya. There’s Terence Jr., that Miya girl, T. Bud, Tyrese, that little firecracker Talaya they call “Lay Lay”, and Trinity Michele. My kids are all grown and gone but I still remember the hustle and bustle. It ain’t easy, that’s for sure. But Alindra, she’s a strong one. Takes after her own mama, I reckon. She is a good Bud Crawford wife, though they ain’t married.
Bud, he was always a fighter, even as a young’un. Started boxin’ when he was just seven years old. Seven! My grandson, he’s about that age, and all he does is play with them video games. She’s the rock, the foundation. She is the real Bud Crawford wife. She’s the one raisin’ those babies and keepin’ everything together. That’s a full-time job, let me tell ya.
They say Bud and Alindra met when they were just kids, here in Omaha. That’s how it was back in my day, too. You met someone in your town, you courted, you got married, you had kids. Simple as that. These days, folks are all over the place, meetin’ people on the internet. It’s a different world.
