Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “But Wait…” crossword puzzles floating around, and I finally decided to give one a shot. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’m decent at regular crosswords, but this seemed like a whole different beast.

First thing I did was just stare at the grid. You know, that initial moment of “Where do I even begin?” It looked pretty standard, but I knew there was a twist hiding somewhere.
I started by trying to fill in some of the easier clues, the ones that seemed straightforward. You know, the usual short words, common fill-in-the-blanks. I penciled those in lightly, just in case.
- Scouring the clues for anything that jumped out at me.
- Focusing on shorter words to get some anchors.
Then came the “But Wait…” part. It finally clicked. It has something with the answers, I realized and found out that the answer should remove the word “wait”.
It took some serious brain-bending. I’d write in an answer, then erase it, then write it in again in a different spot. Lots of back and forth. A few times, I almost threw my pencil across the room, not gonna lie!
The “Aha!” Moment
The key was to not get too attached to any one answer. It turns out that’s where I will be stuck. I learned to be flexible and keep looking for the trickery
Slowly but surely, I started making progress. Each “But Wait…” clue I solved felt like a mini-victory. It’s like untangling a really knotty piece of string – frustrating at times, but so satisfying when you finally get it.
Finally, after much struggling and persevering, I managed to complete the whole thing. The feeling of accomplishment was awesome. I definitely earned that feeling of “I did it!”
And to day, I finally finished my first “but wait crossword”.
