Alright, let’s talk about this Cedric Mullins fella and his contract. You know, the kind of stuff them city boys with their fancy papers and calculators worry about.
Cedric Mullins, the Baseball Player
Now, from what I hear, this Cedric, he plays baseball, and plays it pretty darn good, too. Bats and runs and catches, that sort of thing. They say he hit 15 homers last year, and stole 19 bases. That’s a lot, I reckon, even if I don’t rightly know what a “homer” is besides where we live. He played in 116 games, started in 103 of ‘em. Sounds like he’s a hard worker, always out there on that field. He even played for some team called the Utica Blue Sox a while back, before them Orioles got a hold of him.

The Money Talk
So, this Cedric, he’s gotta get paid, right? Can’t be playin’ all them games for nothin’. They tell me he signed a contract for one year, and it’s worth a whole heap of money – eight million, four hundred and twenty thousand dollars! That’s more money than I’ve seen in my whole life, I tell ya! And that’s guaranteed money, they say. Means he gets it no matter what. They also talk about his salary bein’ four million, one hundred thousand dollars a year. And some folks say his net worth is close to six million. Land sakes, that’s a lot of greenbacks! They even said the Orioles gave contracts to some other fellas too, like Jorge Mateo, Adley Rutschman, Austin Hays and Anthony Santander. Seems like they’re keepin’ busy with all these contracts and whatnot. They got all these contracts and negotiations goin’ on all the time, I guess. It’s like a barn raisin’, but with more zeros on the checks.
Contracts and Numbers
Now, they got all sorts of numbers they throw around. Like this .233 batting average, or .305 somethin’ else. I don’t rightly know what it all means, but I reckon it’s important for them baseball folks. They keep track of everything, it seems. Doubles, triples, RBIs, walks – it’s enough to make your head spin. But I guess that’s how they figure out how much to pay these fellas. They even keep track of the contract stuff way back to 2012! They got records of everything. MLB, minor league, college ball – you name it, they got it. This Cedric, he was picked by the Baltimore Orioles in the 13th round of the draft way back in 2015. Been playin’ ever since, I guess.
The Bottom Line
So, what’s it all mean? Well, it means Cedric Mullins is a good baseball player, and he’s gettin’ paid a lot of money to play. The Orioles, they seem to like him and wanna keep him around, at least for another year. And all them numbers and contracts and negotiations, well, that’s just how they do things in the city. Me, I’m just happy if the crops grow and the chickens lay eggs. But it’s interestin’ to hear about how these young fellas make a livin’, even if it’s a whole different world from mine. This whole contract thing, it’s more complicated than a rooster in a hen house. But as long as Cedric keeps hittin’ them… uh… “homers” and the Orioles keep winnin’, I guess everyone’s happy. And that eight million dollars? Well, that’s enough to buy a whole lot of chicken feed, that’s for sure.
They announced that they tendered contracts. Just mean that they offered them a contract, right? Like sayin’, “Here’s what we’ll pay ya, take it or leave it.” Seems fair enough, I guess.
Anyhow, that’s the way I see it. It’s a whole lotta money for playin’ a game, but I reckon if folks are willin’ to pay it, then it’s worth it. Just like my eggs, if folks are willin’ to pay a premium for farm fresh, then that’s what they are worth.
