Man, I really wanted to see how fast this David Moore guy could run. I heard some buzz about his 40-yard dash time, so I figured, why not try to time it myself? I mean, how hard could it be, right?
First things first, I needed to find some videos of Moore running. So I spent some time looking for this guy’s videos on the internet. After digging around the internet, I found a couple of clips from his Pro Day and the NFL Combine. He seemed pretty quick in those videos, a real burner.
Next, I grabbed my trusty stopwatch. You know, the old-school kind, not some fancy app. I like to keep things simple. Then, I set up my laptop and got ready to play those videos frame by frame.
I started with the Pro Day video. I watched it a few times to get a feel for his start and finish. Then, I started the video and tried to time it as accurately as possible. I clicked the stopwatch the moment he took off and stopped it when he crossed the 40-yard line. It wasn’t easy, I’ll tell you that. My first few attempts were all over the place. One time I got 5.19 seconds, which seemed way too slow. I’m pretty sure I messed up the timing on that one.
After a few more tries, I started to get the hang of it. I focused on his movement, trying to anticipate the exact moment he started and finished. I timed it again and again, each time trying to be more precise. Finally, I got a time that seemed right: 4.43 seconds. That’s pretty darn fast!
Then, I moved on to the NFL Combine video. This one was a bit tougher because the camera angle was different. But I used the same method, starting and stopping the stopwatch as he moved. After several attempts, I clocked him at 4.42 seconds. That’s just a tiny bit faster than his Pro Day time, but it confirmed that he was seriously quick.
- First try: 5.19 seconds (definitely messed that one up)
- Pro Day timing: 4.43 seconds
- NFL Combine timing: 4.42 seconds
I also tried to figure out his 20-yard split from the videos, but that was even trickier. I managed to get a rough estimate of around 2.53 seconds, but I wouldn’t bet my life on it.
In the end, I realized that timing someone’s 40-yard dash from a video isn’t exactly rocket science, but it’s not as easy as it looks either. It takes a bit of practice and a lot of patience. But hey, it was a fun little experiment. And it confirmed what I already suspected: David Moore is one fast dude.
It is so interesting, and I plan to do more practice like this next week. You can see it next time!
