Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Cliff Godwin. Sounds like a big shot, this one. They call him a “head baseball coach” at East Carolina, whatever that means. Sounds fancy, though.
East Carolina and That Godwin Fella
Now, they say he played ball for East Carolina too, back in the day. A catcher, they say. You know, the guy who squats down and catches the ball? Yeah, that was him. Guess he was pretty good, batted somethin’ like .322. Don’t ask me what that means, but folks say it’s good. He even hit some home runs, 15 of ‘em! After playin’, he went on to be a coach, first at some high school, then back to East Carolina, where he is now.
- Played catcher at East Carolina from 1998 to 2001.
- Started 126 games as a catcher.
- Batted .322 with 15 home runs.
- Team co-captain for three years.
They also say he coached all over, even went to somethin’ called the “College World Series” twice. That must be a big deal, I reckon. He’s been coachin’ East Carolina for a while now, and they seem to like him. They even gave him a big contract extension, keepin’ him there ’til 2029. And they gave him a raise too, six hundred thousand dollars, they say! That’s a lot of money, more than I ever seen in my life.
He’s a Pirate, They Say
They call the East Carolina team the “Pirates.” I don’t know nothin’ about pirates, but it sounds tough. And this Godwin fella, he’s the head pirate, I guess. He leads them boys, tells ‘em what to do. He must be good at it, ’cause they keep him around.
Social Media and Stuff
Now, these young folks, they’re always on their phones. This Godwin fella, he’s got somethin’ called an “Instagram.” I don’t know what that is, but they say he posts pictures and stuff on it. He’s got a lot of followers, they say. Thousands of ‘em. Guess people like lookin’ at what he’s doin’. He seems to like it there at ECU, that much I can tell.
More About Coaching
They say he’s been coachin’ at the “Division I level” for a long time. And he’s been to somethin’ called “NCAA Regionals” 14 times. That must be a lot. Sounds like he knows what he’s doin’, this Godwin fella. He’s been coachin’ East Carolina in that American Athletic Conference for seven years now, not countin’ that year when everythin’ shut down on account of that virus goin’ around.
From Snow Hill to Big Time
They say he grew up in a little place called Snow Hill, North Carolina. Went to Greene Central High School there. Just a regular fella, I guess. But look at him now, big-time baseball coach. Shows you what you can do if you work hard, I reckon. Or maybe it’s just luck, who knows.
A Long Contract, That’s for Sure
Like I said, they gave him a long contract, ten more years! That’s a long time to be doin’ anything. Must be they really like him, want him to stay around. And why not? He seems to be doin’ a good job, winnin’ games and such. East Carolina even put out a big announcement about it, so it must be important.
So there you have it, that’s what I know about this Cliff Godwin fella. A baseball coach, a former player, a big shot at East Carolina. Seems like a good man, I guess. At least, that’s what they say.
