Getting Karlach’s Engine Sorted
Alright, so I figured I’d jot down how I managed to get Karlach’s Infernal Engine fixed up in Baldur’s Gate 3. Wasn’t exactly rocket science, but took a bit of running around.

First off, you meet Karlach, right? Poor girl’s burning up, literally. She mentions needing some special parts or someone who knows this Infernal tech. The key guy here is Dammon, the Tiefling blacksmith.
First Fix: Early Game Stuff
I first bumped into Dammon at the Emerald Grove, you know, where the Druids and Tiefling refugees are holed up early on. Had a chat with him, mentioned Karlach’s problem. He knew about these engines, said he needed Infernal Iron to even try anything.
So, the hunt was on. Where to find this stuff? I remembered poking around:
- The Blighted Village: Checked the basement forge area pretty thoroughly.
- Goblin Camp: Inside, where the leaders hang out. Specifically searched the treasure room behind Dror Ragzlin.
- Zhentarim Hideout?: Thought maybe those shady traders might have something.
Eventually, I snagged a piece of Infernal Iron. I think the one in the Blighted Village was the easiest grab early on. Took it straight back to Dammon. He tinkered with Karlach’s engine for a bit. It wasn’t a full fix, more like a patch-up job. But hey, progress! Karlach could finally touch people without setting them on fire, which was a big deal for her. Felt good getting that sorted.
Second Fix: Later On
Okay, so the first fix was temporary. Karlach still needed a more permanent solution. Later in the game, I found Dammon again. This time he was at the Last Light Inn, in the Shadow-Cursed Lands (Act 2). Good dude, sticking around.
He remembered us and said he could do a proper upgrade, but guess what? He needed another piece of Infernal Iron. So, back to hunting I went.
This time, I searched places like:
- The Mason’s Guild area in the Shadow-Cursed Lands.
- Checked various chests and bodies around Reithwin Town.
- Explored the Gauntlet of Shar pretty well.
Found another chunk of that metal. Can’t recall exactly where, you just gotta keep your eyes peeled exploring Act 2 areas. Took the second piece of Infernal Iron back to Dammon at the Inn.

He did his magic again, a more serious operation this time. And that was it! Karlach’s engine was properly stabilized. She was thrilled, obviously. Makes a big difference for her character quest line and, well, her general wellbeing.
So yeah, that’s the process basically:
- Find Dammon in the Druid Grove (Act 1).
- Find one piece of Infernal Iron (Blighted Village, Goblin Camp etc.).
- Give it to Dammon for the first fix.
- Find Dammon again at Last Light Inn (Act 2).
- Find a second piece of Infernal Iron (various Act 2 locations).
- Give it to Dammon for the final fix.
Took some legwork finding those iron pieces, but seeing Karlach feeling better was totally worth the effort. Just wanted to share how I got it done. Keep exploring, you’ll find that iron!
