Okay, so let’s talk about this place I went to the other day called Carolina Fine Foods in Travelers Rest. I was in South Carolina for a meeting and I figured I might as well try some local food. I saw this restaurant called Carolina Fine Foods mentioned online, and it looked pretty good, so I decided to give it a shot.
First thing I did was look up their address. Turns out it’s at 100 Hawkins Rd, Travelers Rest, SC 29690. I just put that into my phone’s GPS, and it took me right there. Parking was easy, plenty of spots right in front.
When I walked in, I noticed it had that classic, homey diner feel. The staff were super friendly, and I grabbed a menu to see what they had.
Now, I’d heard they had an awesome fish fry every Thursday, so I was kind of bummed that it wasn’t Thursday. But no big deal, plenty of other stuff looked good. From what I saw online, they’re known for their American cuisine, especially hot dogs. I’m a sucker for a good hot dog, so I was already thinking that’s what I’d get.
I started looking through the menu, and they had a bunch of choices. I saw some classic Southern sides, like macaroni and cheese, rice and gravy, mashed potatoes, and green beans. You could choose one of those with your meal, which I thought was pretty cool.
Menu Highlights
- Hot Dogs: They had a variety of hot dogs, and they all sounded delicious. I ended up going with their classic dog, and it did not disappoint.
- Sides: As I mentioned, they had all the classic Southern sides. I went with the macaroni and cheese, and it was creamy and cheesy, just the way I like it.
- Other Stuff: They also had other things like burgers and sandwiches, but I didn’t try any of those this time. I saw a few other people eating them, and they looked pretty good, though.
I placed my order, and the food came out pretty fast. Everything was hot and fresh. The hot dog was amazing, and the mac and cheese was the perfect side. It was a good, solid meal, and it definitely hit the spot. They also mentioned that they do takeout, delivery, and catering, which is good to know if I’m ever back in the area and need a quick bite.
After I finished, I chatted with one of the ladies there, Elaine Athas, who I think is the owner. Super nice lady, and we talked about the restaurant and how they source their ingredients. Seemed like they really care about the quality of their food. I paid for my food, which is quite affordable, and left a good tip because the service was great.
Overall, I had a really good experience at Carolina Fine Foods. It’s a great little spot in Travelers Rest, and I’d definitely recommend it if you’re in the area. Good food, good people, and good prices. What more could you ask for? If you’re ever in South Carolina and want to try some iconic Southern food, this place is worth checking out.
Oh, and I almost forgot! I saw some pimento cheese and oysters on their menu. I know these are like staples in South Carolina, but I wasn’t feeling adventurous that day. Maybe next time I’ll give them a try.
Anyway, that’s my little food adventure for you. Hope you enjoyed it! Let me know if you’ve been to Carolina Fine Foods and what you thought of it.
