Okay, so I fired up Cyberpunk 2077 again the other day. Been a while, thought I’d see how things are running, maybe finish up some side stuff I left hanging.
Diving Back into Night City
Things were going alright, smoother than I remembered, which was nice. Cruising around, doing gigs, the usual. Then I got the message for that quest, “New Person, Same Old Mistakes”. You know, the one with Bill Jablonsky, the cop guy near the Aldecaldo camp. I remember thinking, okay cool, a little side story.
Hitting the Wall – The Bug Appears
So, I head over to the area. The quest marker is there, pointing me to the spot. But here’s where it gets annoying. I get there, and… nothing. Bill’s supposed to call, right? Or you approach him, and some dialogue starts? Well, zip. Nada. He’s just standing there by his car, sometimes he’s not even there, or he’s there but I can’t interact with him at all. The quest log just sits there, telling me to go talk to him, but the game isn’t triggering the next step.
Here’s what I tried, step-by-step:
- First, the classic: reloaded the most recent autosave. Nope.
- Then, went back further, tried a manual save from before I even got close to the area. Still no good.
- Okay, maybe the game needs a nudge. I fast-traveled away, did a completely different gig across town. Came back. Same problem.
- Tried waiting. Skipped time in-game using the menu, like 24 hours, then 48 hours. Bill’s still just chilling, ignoring me.
- Drove far away manually, slept in V’s apartment, came back again. Still bugged.
- Did a full game restart. Shut down Cyberpunk completely, rebooted the PC just in case. Launched it again, loaded my save. You guessed it, still stuck.
- I even tried bumping into Bill, shooting near him (not at him, mostly), making noise. Nothing makes the quest progress.
Frustration Sets In
It’s kinda frustrating, you know? You get invested, you want to see these little stories play out, and then a bug just stops you dead in your tracks. It’s like the game just forgot how this quest is supposed to work. I saw some chatter online, seems like other folks have hit this wall too, sometimes it fixes itself, sometimes it doesn’t. For me, right now, it’s firmly in the “doesn’t” category.
So yeah, that’s where I’m at. The quest “New Person, Same Old Mistakes” is bugged out for me. Bill won’t talk, the quest won’t start properly. Just another one of those classic Cyberpunk moments, I guess. For now, I’ve just moved on, doing other stuff. Maybe a future patch will magically fix it, maybe not. Bit of a shame, but what can you do?
