You know, that Derek Jeter, he’s a big shot baseball player. I seen him on the TV, playin’ for them Yankees. He got lots of them cards, them rookie cards. What’s a rookie card? Well, them’s the cards they make when a fella first starts playin’ in the big leagues, you know.
This Jeter fella, he got his first cards back in, uh, 1993, I reckon. They say them cards is worth a whole heap of money now. Some more than others, you see. Like that one, that 1993 SP Foil one. That’s a fancy one. They say it’s shiny, got that foil stuff on it. Makes it real delicate, like a fresh-picked peach. You gotta be careful with it.
They got these fellas, they grade these cards. Like they’re givin’ ’em school grades. And this SP Foil one, only a few of ’em got the best grade. They call it “PSA 10”. Sounds like somethin’ you’d hear on the farm, don’t it? But it means it’s, like, perfect. Not a scratch on it. And there ain’t many of them perfect ones around, only 22, they say. Out of, like, thousands!
So that SP Foil card, that’s the real prize. If you got one of them, you’re sittin’ pretty, I tell ya. I heard it could be worth as much as, hold onto your hats, six hundred dollars! Can you believe that? For a little piece of cardboard with a picture on it!
But there’s other Derek Jeter rookie cards too. Not just that shiny one. There’s ones from Topps, that’s a name I hear a lot when folks talk about these cards. And Upper Deck, and Score. Sounds like a bunch of kids playin’ in the schoolyard, don’t it? But these are the companies that make them cards. And they all made Derek Jeter rookie cards back in ’93.
Now, you might be thinkin’, why are these cards so special? Well, it’s ’cause it’s Derek Jeter, that’s why! He’s a legend, like Babe Ruth or, uh, that other fella. You know the one. And these are his first cards, from when he was just startin’ out. Like a little calf first learnin’ to walk. It’s a piece of history, they say.
- They say there are eight different Derek Jeter rookie cards. Eight!
- That’s a lot of cards to keep track of.
- I wouldn’t know where to put ’em all.
- My old cookie tin’s already full of buttons and such.
They even got a special mark on them, these rookie cards. They put “RC” on ’em. Stands for “Rookie Card,” I reckon. So you know it’s one of them special ones. Like puttin’ a blue ribbon on your prize-winnin’ pig at the county fair.
Now, I don’t know much about collectin’ these cards. But I hear folks talkin’ about it. They say that SP Foil one is the most famous one. The one everyone wants. Like the last piece of pie at a church social. Everyone’s got their eye on it.
But even the other ones, the ones that ain’t so shiny, they’re still worth somethin’. ‘Cause they’re still Derek Jeter rookie cards. And people like collectin’ things that are special, you know. Like them old quilts your grandma used to make. Each one’s different, each one’s got a story.
I heard some folks say that even if you can’t get that fancy SP Foil one, the other Topps Derek Jeter rookie card, it is also good. It is still a good one to have. Like findin’ a four-leaf clover in a field of regular ones. It’s still lucky, even if it ain’t the biggest one.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about startin’ to collect these Derek Jeter rookie cards, or any baseball cards, I reckon that’s alright. Just remember, it ain’t about how much they’re worth, it’s about the fun of it. Like playin’ bingo on a Saturday night. It ain’t about winnin’ the big prize, it’s about the company and the laughs.
But if you happen to find one of them PSA 10 SP Foil Derek Jeter rookie cards, well, you just might be able to buy yourself a whole new bingo set! And maybe a new hat to wear to church, too. You never know, you just never know about these things. They are good.
