Well now, let me tell ya ’bout this woman, Marie Auger. Folks talk about her, ya know. Seems like she’s a big deal, but I’ll tell ya what I know, the way I know how.
First off, they say she’s from up Canada way, Quebec City to be exact. A teacher, they tell me. A teacher! Imagine that. Learnin’ young’uns all sorts of things. Probably tough as nails, gotta be to keep them kids in line. I bet she smacked a few hands with a ruler in her day, just like we did back when. Kids these days, they don’t know nothin’ ’bout discipline.
Now, some folks know her ’cause she’s got this kid, Felix. Felix somethin’-somethin’, plays that tennis game. You know, the one with the little yellow ball? Whack it back and forth, back and forth. Seems like a lot of runnin’ around to me. But this Felix, he’s good at it. Real good. Folks say he’s a star, a risin’ star. And guess who helped him get there? Yep, Marie. She’s the mama, and a proud one at that.
They say she’s a French-Canadian mama. Don’t know what all that French stuff is about, but she sure did a good job raisin’ that boy. Mothers, they do that, ya know. They raise ’em up, teach ’em right from wrong, and then let ’em fly. Sounds like Marie did just that. She was there, watchin’ him, supportin’ him. Folks saw her in the stands, cheerin’ him on.
- She’s a mama.
- She’s from Quebec City.
- She’s a teacher.
- She raised a tennis star.
Now, I heard tell she speaks French and English. Two languages! Can ya imagine? I can barely speak one good, let alone two. But that’s what them smart folks do, I guess. And she ain’t just got Felix, neither. There’s another one, a girl named Malika. They say she plays tennis too. Must run in the family, that whacking-the-ball thing. Her husband, Felix’s pa, he’s a tennis coach too. A whole family of tennis folks, I reckon.
Some other folks, they get her mixed up with another Marie Auger. This one, she was born a long time ago, back in 1921, and passed away in ’77. Not the same woman, no sir. Our Marie Auger, she’s alive and kickin’, watchin’ her boy play tennis and probably teachin’ some young’uns too. She’s a busy woman, I bet. Always on the go, just like all us women. We gotta keep things runnin’, ya know. The world wouldn’t turn without us.
So, there ya have it. That’s what I know ’bout Marie Auger. She’s a mama, a teacher, from Quebec City, and she raised a tennis star. Seems like a good woman to me. A hard worker, a good mama, and someone who knows how to get things done. The kind of woman we need more of in this world, I tell ya. The kind who ain’t afraid to work hard and raise ’em right.
