Alright, let’s talk about this “Craig Stammen Classic” thing. I ain’t no fancy writer, so I’m just gonna tell it like it is, you know? Like how we talk down at the market, plain and simple.
So, this Craig fella, he’s a big deal baseball player, played in the big leagues for a long, long time. Thirteen years, they say! That’s a heap of baseball, more than I ever watched in my whole life, that’s for sure. Now, he’s come back home, and he’s got this baseball thing going on for the young’uns. They call it the “Craig Stammen Classic.” Sounds fancy, but it’s just kids playin’ ball, far as I can tell.
Little League Baseball, Big Fun
They got all sorts of young fellas playin’. Little bitty ones, just startin’ out, and bigger kids too. They got these age groups, you know, like 8 and under, 9 and under, all the way up to 14 and under. Just a whole bunch of kids runnin’ around, hittin’ balls, and catchin’ ’em. Makes me tired just thinkin’ about it!
This year, they even added a new group, the 13 and under fellas. Guess more kids wanna play, which is good, I reckon. Keeps ’em outta trouble, right? They say they only take eight teams for most of the age groups, so I guess it fills up fast. You gotta be quick to get your young’un in, seems like.

- 9 and Under
- 10 and Under
- 11 and Under
- 12 and Under
- 13 and Under (That’s the new one!)
- 14 and Under
They had a game the other night, and some of the boys playing, they know this Craig fella real good. Like this Treon kid and that Drew Langenkamp boy from St. Henry. They were all suited up and playin’ their hearts out. Must be somethin’ special to have a big leaguer watchin’ you play, huh?
Craig Stammen Comes Home
Now, this Craig Stammen, born on March 9th, I hear. Don’t know what year, but he’s been around the block a few times, playin’ baseball all over. He played in the big leagues, like I said, for thirteen seasons. That’s a long time to be hittin’ and throwin’ balls. And now, he’s back home, watchin’ these kids play. That’s pretty nice of him, I think. Givin’ back to the community, they call it.
It’s a good thing, these kids havin’ somethin’ to do. Keeps ’em busy, keeps ’em healthy. And who knows, maybe one of these young’uns will be the next Craig Stammen, playin’ in the big leagues someday. That’d be somethin’, wouldn’t it?
This “Craig Stammen Classic” thing, it’s more than just baseball, I reckon. It’s about community, about these kids havin’ fun, and about a fella comin’ back home and givin’ back. It’s a good thing, a real good thing. And that’s all I gotta say about that.
A Good Thing for the Kids
So, there ya have it. The Craig Stammen Classic. Kids playin’ ball, a big leaguer watchin’, and a whole lotta fun. It ain’t complicated, and it don’t need to be. It’s just good, clean fun. And in this day and age, that’s somethin’ to be thankful for, ain’t it?
I’m glad these kids got this opportunity. Back in my day, we didn’t have nothin’ like this. We just played in the fields, usin’ whatever we could find for bats and balls. These kids got it good, they really do. And I hope they appreciate it. It’s a special thing, this Craig Stammen Classic. A real special thing.
Remembering the Basics
It’s easy to get caught up in all the fancy stuff, you know? The big stadiums, the big contracts, the big everything. But at the end of the day, baseball is just a game. A game played by kids, and sometimes by grown-up kids. And this Craig Stammen Classic, it reminds us of that. It reminds us of the joy of playin’, the joy of competin’, and the joy of bein’ part of somethin’ bigger than yourself. And that’s a good thing to remember, no matter how old you get.
