My Little Brush with Golf… Sort Of
So, I got this idea a while back, right? Thought I’d try golf. Seemed relaxing on TV. Went out, bought some cheap clubs, the whole deal. Headed to the local driving range feeling pretty good about myself. Let me tell you, it wasn’t like the TV.

First swing? Missed the ball completely. Felt like a total idiot. Tried again. Topped it. The ball dribbled maybe ten feet. People around me weren’t exactly pros, but nobody looked quite as clumsy as I felt. I spent like an hour just hacking away, sweating, getting frustrated. Packed my stuff up thinking, “Okay, maybe golf isn’t for me.” It just felt awkward, complicated.
Later that week, I was just scrolling online, killing time. You know how it is. End up watching random videos. Then I stumbled across some golf clips. This young woman, hitting the ball pretty decently. Looked like she was having fun, not struggling like I was. Clicked on her profile or whatever it was. Name was Grace Charis.
Saw she wasn’t even a pro golfer back then, just someone who enjoyed playing. Apparently, she started posting her stuff, maybe back around early 2022? I remember seeing something about that. And boom, she just got super popular online, really fast. Young kid, looked like she was from somewhere sunny like California, Newport Beach maybe? Making golf look easy, or at least way easier than my disaster at the range.
- Watched a few more swings.
- Saw how many people followed her.
- Realized she basically built this huge online thing around golf pretty quickly after school.
It didn’t make me want to rush back to the driving range, honestly. More like, “Huh. Look at that.” Someone just picked up a phone, shared what they did, and tons of people watched. Made my own struggle feel even sillier, but also kinda interesting how things work online now. One minute you’re just playing golf, next minute you’re an internet thing. Wild. Anyway, haven’t picked up those clubs since.
