Alright, so I wanted to talk about my recent deep dive into Fred Couples’ golf swing. You know, that “Boom Boom” guy who just hits the ball a mile? I got really into it, watched a bunch of videos, and tried to figure out what makes his swing so special.
First, I watched this video that broke down his swing. They talked about something called “downcocking” to create lag. Honestly, I didn’t even know what those words meant at first, but I kept watching. It looked like he was storing up all this power in his wrists and then, boom, unleashing it at the last second.
Then I found another video where Couples himself was talking about his swing. It was from some learning center thing, and he was going on about how important it is to get your driver fitted properly. He also shared some tips on how to get that effortless power he’s known for. He made it sound so easy!
So, I started trying to copy what I saw. I went out to the driving range and started swinging. Of course, I didn’t magically turn into Fred Couples overnight. But I did start to focus on how I was using my wrists and trying to get that feeling of loading up power. I read somewhere that in the 2005-2006 season, he was averaging crazy long drives.
My Experiment
- Watch and Learn: I spent hours watching videos of Couples, trying to pick up on the little things he does.
- Hit the Range: I went to the driving range a bunch of times, just trying to get a feel for his swing.
- Focus on the Wrists: I paid extra attention to how I was using my wrists, trying to get that “downcocking” thing down.
- Feel the Power: I tried to sense where the power was coming from in my swing and how to store it up.
It was a fun experiment. I’m still no “Boom Boom,” but I definitely feel like I understand his swing a lot better now. Plus, my drives are going a little farther, so that’s a win!
