Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another one of my little adventures. So, I’ve been hearing a lot about this “CARA Run For Their Lives” thing, and I figured, why not give it a shot? It’s supposed to be some kind of charity run, and since I’ve been trying to be a little more active, I thought this would be a good push.
I did a little digging and found out that this year’s run is happening on Saturday, August 24, 2024. Perfect, that gives me some time to, you know, not embarrass myself too badly.
The first thing I did was start a basic training plan. I’m no athlete, so I started slow. Here’s what I did:
- Warmup: I did some light jogging or walked fast for about 5 to 10 minutes. I felt like a total noob, but hey, gotta start somewhere, right?
After warming up, I started doing these “interval” things. I’d run like crazy for one minute and then walk or jog slowly for two minutes. I did this cycle five times. It was rough, let me tell you. I was sweating buckets and thought I was going to collapse a few times. But I pushed through it.
Then I learned that I had to run more often, like five or six days a week. I started mixing it up with longer runs, more intervals, and even some sprints. This was a whole new level of torture. I tried to make it a bit more bearable by listening to music or podcasts.
They also had two options for the run: an in-person run and a virtual one, which they called “SLEEP for Their Lives”. I’m still debating which one to pick. The virtual one sounds tempting because, well, sleep. But the in-person one might be more fun and give me a real sense of accomplishment.
I found out there are different distances too – a 5k and a 10k. I’m leaning towards the 5k for now. I mean, I want to support the cause, which is animal rescue, but I also don’t want to die out there.
Training Progress
So, how’s my training going? Well, it’s tough, but I’m not giving up. I’m trying to stay hydrated and keep pushing myself. It’s still about a month away, so I’ve got some time to get better. It’s actually kind of exciting to see myself improving, even if it’s just a little bit.
I’m trying to think of my runs like a relaxed walk in nature. It’s less pressure that way. I just put on my headphones, enjoy the outdoors, and don’t worry about speed. It’s all about having fun and getting moving, right?
So that’s my journey so far with this whole “Run For Their Lives” thing. It’s been a wild ride, and I’m sure there’s more craziness to come. Stick around, and I’ll keep you all updated on how it goes. Maybe I’ll even see some of you there on August 24th!
Stay tuned for more of my clumsy adventures, folks. And remember, if I can do this, so can you!
