I’ve been wanting to try out Ji Hyun Suh’s method for a while, you know, that productivity technique that’s been making the rounds.
So, this week, I finally decided to give it a go. I started my Monday morning, not by jumping straight into work, but by outlining my day as per her method. I listed all my tasks, big or small, and categorized them based on urgency and importance. It felt a bit weird at first, you know, to spend time planning instead of doing, but I stuck to it.
- Wrote down all my tasks.
- Classified each one as either ‘urgent’, ‘important’, ‘both’, or ‘neither’.
- Prioritized the ‘urgent and important’ ones.
Then, I dived into the tasks. The whole idea is to focus on one thing at a time, no multitasking. And let me tell you, it was tough. I’m so used to juggling multiple things at once. But every time I felt the urge to switch tasks, I reminded myself of Suh’s principle: single-tasking leads to better focus and efficiency.
Midweek, I hit a bit of a snag. I had this big project that seemed to take forever. I almost gave up on the whole method. But then I remembered Suh’s advice about breaking down large tasks into smaller, manageable chunks. So, that’s what I did. I split the project into smaller parts and tackled them one by one.
Reaching the End
By Friday, I was actually seeing results. I had crossed off most of my ‘urgent and important’ tasks, and even made progress on the others. It wasn’t perfect, and I didn’t follow everything to the letter. There were times I slipped back into my old multitasking habits. But overall, I felt more in control of my day, less stressed, and definitely more productive.
I’m not saying it’s a magic bullet or anything. It takes some getting used to, and it might not be for everyone. But for me, it was a good experiment. I learned a lot about how I work and how I can improve my focus. I think I’ll keep using parts of her method, maybe tweaking it here and there to fit my style. It’s all about finding what works for you, right?
Anyway, that’s my experience with the Ji Hyun Suh method. If you’re looking for a way to boost your productivity, maybe give it a try. Who knows, it might just work for you too. But remember, be patient with yourself, it’s a process.
