Alright, so, I’ve been a huge Lions fan since I was a kid, and Matthew Stafford, man, that guy was our quarterback for 12 long years. I always wanted a Stafford jersey. I mean, he’s the franchise’s all-time passing leader and it felt like the right thing to do.
So, a few years back, around 2021, I started seriously looking for his jersey. I remember hearing the news that he was traded to the Rams. I was bummed, of course, but hey, life goes on. It was a big deal, though. We got Jared Goff and a bunch of draft picks for him, and I have been following the news of the Lions since.
I started searching for a jersey and found a youth one for my little cousin. It was a #9, blue, you know, the classic home color. Looked pretty sweet. I got that for him from a local store, I guess I just wanted to keep a connection to the team.
Then I went online, trying to find one for myself. I went to a bunch of online shops and I found one, and there are even different sizes, from XS to 5XL. Can you believe it? They’ve got everything!
I remember reading somewhere that Stafford’s first contract was like $41.7 million guaranteed, and then he got a couple of extensions. The last one was huge, $135 million. I guess that is just how the NFL works, but it is crazy to think about it. Anyway, these numbers are just stuck in my head.
- First, I got a youth jersey for my cousin.
- Then, I found one for myself at the online shop.
- Finally, I ordered it!
The one I ordered finally arrived. Put it on right away. Felt great. It was the same blue as the one I got for my cousin. Now, even though Stafford’s with the Rams, I still wear it proudly. It represents a big chunk of the Lions’ history, and a great period of my time as a fan, and I’m not giving that up.
The End
That’s pretty much my story of getting a Stafford Lions jersey. Kind of a bittersweet thing, but I’m happy I got it. It is not just about the player, but also about all the memories.
