Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Wuthering Waves lately, and I gotta say, the sound design is pretty wild. I wanted to try and capture some of that “beguiling melody” vibe myself, so I started experimenting.

First, I opened up my trusty digital audio workstation (DAW). It’s nothing fancy, just something I can use to record and layer sounds. Then, I grabbed my old keyboard – it’s kinda dusty, but it still works! – and plugged it in.
I started messing around with different instrument sounds. The game has this cool mix of orchestral stuff and electronic sounds, so I tried to find something similar. I settled on a combination of a string section patch and a weird, synthesized flute sound.
The Process
- Layering: I recorded a simple, haunting melody with the strings first. Then, I added the flute sound on top, playing a slightly different version of the melody. It gave it this echo-y, ethereal feel.
- Effects: This is where things got interesting. I slapped on a bunch of reverb and delay to make the sounds feel really spacious, like they were echoing through a giant cave. I also added a bit of chorus to give it that shimmering quality.
- Experimentation: Then I added a granular synth to create some space sounds, and started to play around with the panning and EQ until it all sounded good.
It’s definitely not perfect, and it doesn’t sound exactly like the game, but it’s got that same kind of haunting, mysterious vibe. It’s amazing how just layering a few simple sounds and adding some effects can create something so atmospheric.
I might try adding some more percussive elements later, like some of those weird clicking and clanging sounds from the game. But for now, I’m pretty happy with how this little experiment turned out.
