Well, let me tell you, I heard some folks talking ’bout them baseball umpires the other day. They was wonderin’ how much do baseball umpires make. I didn’t know, so I listened in real good. Turns out, them umpires, they make a pretty penny, I reckon. It ain’t like pickin’ beans, that’s for sure!
Baseball Umpires Make Good Money
These young fellas, they run around in the hot sun, and they gotta make all them calls. Right or wrong, they gotta call it. And folks in the stands, they yell and holler, but the umpire, he’s the boss out there. He got the final say on the baseball field.
Now, I heard them say that the MLB umpire starting salary, that’s for the new ones, the greenhorns, is somethin’ like $150,000 a year. Can you believe that? $150,000! That’s a lot of money. More money than I ever seen in my whole life, that’s for sure. And that’s just to start! They get that much for startin’ out!
And get this, the average salary of an MLB Umpire, now that’s for the ones that been around a while, is even more. I heard them say it’s around $235,000. Lord have mercy, that’s enough to buy a whole farm! Maybe even two! $235,000 a year, just for watchin’ baseball and makin’ sure them players follow the rules.
- MLB umpire starting salary: $150,000
- Average salary of an MLB Umpire: $235,000
- MLB umpires’ salaries go up to $450,000 a year.
They said some of them umpires make even more than that! The real good ones, the ones that been doin’ it for years and years. I hear some of them make over $400,000. That is just crazy! I swear, I don’t know what they do with all that money. Must be nice, though.
MLB Umpires and World Series Money
And then there’s that World Series thing. That’s the big one, the championship. They say the umpires that get picked for that, they get extra money. A bonus, they call it. I heard it’s somethin’ like $20,000 for each one. For workin’ that one big series. Can you imagine gettin’ a bonus like that? That’s more than some folks make in a whole year.
Now, I don’t know all the ins and outs of it, but that’s what I heard. Seems like bein’ a baseball umpire is a pretty good gig if you can get it. You gotta be tough, though. And you gotta know the game inside and out. And you gotta be able to handle all them folks yellin’ at you.
The Hard Work of MLB Umpires
It ain’t easy, I’m sure. They gotta stand out there in that hot sun all day. And they gotta be on their toes, watchin’ every move. One wrong call, and everyone’s on their case. It takes a special kind of person to be an umpire, I reckon.
And you know, them umpires, they travel all over the place. They don’t just stay in one town. They go wherever the games are. That’s gotta be hard, bein’ away from home all the time. But I guess that’s part of the job. And with that kind of money, maybe it’s worth it.
So, yeah, how much do baseball umpires make? They make a lot, that’s the short answer. More than most folks, that’s for sure. It’s a hard job, but it pays well. I guess that’s why so many folks want to do it. That money be callin’ their name.
I still can’t get over it, though. $235,000 a year, just to watch baseball. It’s a crazy world, ain’t it? I guess if you love baseball that much, and you’re good at it, it’s a dream job. But me, I think I’ll stick to my garden. It’s a lot less stressful, and the pay ain’t bad either, when you count all them fresh tomatoes.
